Hmm, there was a debate on this a while ago.
Um, to be honest I would say no. As I don't think they're very good.
The PSU is the part that powers your whole system so you need it to be of good quality and also reliable.
As an alternative, I suggest this, as you're obviously on a tight budget: http://www.tekheads.co.uk/web/product?product=601144

It will be OK in that system as long as it's one that comes in a red box not gold. But it won't be any better than OK!

It doesnt, its just that the red ones are apparently better than the ones which are gold.
Bet you were looking at the gold ones werent you?

It's wierd. The Q-Tec PSU I ran for a while was able to power my old setup (AMD2600+, Asus mobo, FX5950U) just fine but the Antec I bought to replace it self-destructed. Since then, I've left Antec well alone. Currently using a Thermaltake 480W, which is very stable.

    I'd take a 350W antec over 450W q-tec any day

I'm told that the quality of Q-Tec psu's vary. You can get a good one, or you can get one that will total itself very quickly. I ran this setup on one:
    AMD 2600+ @ 2.5 ghz
Asus A7N8X Dlx rev 2 mobo
    2 x 256 Mushkin lvl II PC3200
    Creative FX5950
    SB Audigy
    Maxtor 60gb drive
    LG DVD-ROM
    Lite-On DVD-/+RW
    7 Tt case fans

That same setup destroyed an Antec TruePower 430W power supply. I guess there must be some really bad Q-Tec psu's out there for them to have the reputation that they do.

It's more to do with buid quility and component selection than the design. If you get one that had luck with the bits thrown into it and somebody building it without a hangover then it will be fine. I know mine died and that the shop I took it back to told me most of the ones in the gold boxes had come back but far fewer red box ones for whatever reason.
