OK, so it's been a while, but I'm finally getting around to building myself a decent new PC. I've currently got a Ryzen 2700 (got a GREAT deal on it with an x370 board) and will be upgrading that to the 3900X later in the year along with a decent mid-range x570 board, 2 x NVME drives (one primary one for games, storage and work stuff) 32GB RAM (likely 3600) and most likely a 2070 Super or (5700XT partner card when they come out). Main uses are gaming and work (VM's using virtualbox for SQL Server and application development). I have found a deal on a Corsair RM1000i which is almost $100AUD cheaper than other comparable PSU's. My question is though, given this is a 4 - 5 year old design, is it still good or should I opt for something that's of a newer design? While money is a concern, I'm taking my time and getting things bit by bit. So I'm happy to wait a little longer to get something a bit more expensive if needed. Once I'm finished the build the 2700 and x370 board will go in a new rig for my kids.
I'd go with the Corsair RM1000i if its cheaper than the others, or on offer (and New, of course ) Power Supply tech has not really advanced that much in the last few years, apart from the Platinum series above Gold. The Corsair ones should be built with some good quality, you might find a review of it somewhere, where they can tell who the fabricator is, FSP or whoever. I'd guess its a good one though. 1000W PSU's are rarely made by crappy suppliers.....
Perfect thanks. It's brand new, just on on a clearance sale which has made it cheaper than the 850w ones I was originally looking at. I was just worried as all the reviews I found were from 2015 and I wasn't sure if anything much had changed since then as I haven't really kept up with PC tech the last few years
