Lapping my old Q9550 shaved 8C on stress with Mugen 2. I had the same temps when OC'ed to 3.8GHz (lapped) and stock clock (not lapped).

To achieve extra mirror finish after using sand paper, I used polishing paste that is intended to restore very delicate antique jewelery. It is even better than P2500 sand paper. To do that I've taped very soft cloth, applied just a bit of paste to it and then went with circular motion. End effect was great :)

L3p, as always - great pictures. You got me thinking about lapping my new i5-2500K, because those temps suck big time. I think my Thermalright Archon would approve :D

For me it worked out every time too :)
Well just try the 2500K, what could go wrong.
    Thanks for the compliment m8!

its hit or miss honestly. ive never lapped a cpu but ive lost count as to how many coolers ive lapped over the years. sometimes they yeild 0 difference in temps other times the difference is nite and day.

at most, the highest temp difference ive ever seen is -11c from stock and that was after i lapped a noctua nh-c14. my most recent lap was a cooler master v8 and i only got a -3c difference from stock on that.

    great photos though

    Thanks!
    Well all 4 cpu's i did were a succces :)
Hmm that reminds me, did a thermalright extreme once, only got me 2 degrees.

Ordered something last week i could really use today : )

First some holes for the buttons of the pump/fan controller.

    Tape so it won't move.

    And some holes with 3.5mm.

    Wow, it fits : )

Sanded the frame so i can paint it.

Oops almost forgot i also had to paint the edge where the plexi goes.

    Glued the plexi.

Bitspower fanguards back in after the paintjob.

    And some glue.

Rub it in with a wet finger.

Believe me this glue doesn't let go : )

Next problem, what to do with this..

    Ah we'll see : )

    Hmm... needs more cutting.

Losing the sharp edges and create some nice roundings.

    Paint it black.

Also glued the frame for the pump/fan controller.

Second part of the ex-5.25" slot.

Let's stick the Dremel in there too.
(Not easy to hold a Dremel in one hand and a cam in the other : ) )

    And more polishing.

Making it rough so i can paint it.

    Painted.

Lots of work for something you hardly see back, but im satisfied for today.

    Time for BBQ! : P

    Thanks m8 :)

Assembled the case again this week
Quite some work cause of the lcd screen

After that tested if the Velcro would work out.

Works great, i think it can hold me too :p

Pulling it off again wasn't that easy :)

Placed the other stuff again too.

Don't want too much lights on the outside, i like it this way.
Maybe some red glow from the bottom...

Maybe the top casewindow will be blood red plexi too.

Here an airflowtest with the new fanholes.

Ever thought about using a party smoke machine for airflow visualization?

    I did, but haven't tested yet ;)

Great works you've done, the desk and now this... Sick...

Hahaha! Lol at video of smoke test, nothing better than a home rolled doobie to create the smoke for this!

Hmm do you think it would be visible then?
With one smoke it certainly isn't :p
    Thanks for the compliment m8!

    Indeed :toke:

Yes I think it would, you can rent one or buy one, as far as I researched locally the cost of renting a professional machine for one day equals the price of a new, cheap smoke machine (25€), so...

Silverstone uses them to show the airflow so it's quite a good way:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=douRh490E3I
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qe-2ZqmSGug&feature=related
You can actually *see* how the air flows through and where are pockets of voids to eliminate...

Don't want to tell everything about Exceleram, but i do have to explain something when all of a sudden a sponsor disappears :)

After months of contact with someone from Exceleram all of a sudden i didn't hear anything anymore from them.
I found out by facebook a lot of personnel quit their job there ... inclusive the one I was in contact with ... nice :p
After lots of mails i got to hear after 4 months there weren't any samples left, i do have to go on so i decided to thank Exceleram and wish them the best!

I hope to have some good news in a few weeks!

So this evening I mounted my mainboard and EK block so i can go on measuring.

    And ready.

Glad i don't have to hide the nice red ROG colours like in my last mod :)
