CARS is looking much more polished than rFactor 2 at this stage. Plus "word on the street" is that they've found a major "investor" and we're going to see this game take off soon. ISI seems to be the less professional of the two companies from what I've seen. But I hope both games turn out to be great for the sim comunity.

I love racing games, and I loved the shift series (despite some flaws), BUT I'm not playing with a wheel: I'm using a x360 gamepad (I know, I know).
I don't have enough room on my desk to put a wheel ^^

So I wanted to know if, at this stage, the game works fine with controllers/gamepad, or if this is a hardcore sim aimed for people who only use a wheel ?

Also, is the "typical SmS car-sliding effect" still present in this game?

    Thanks :)

Not sure how it would react with a gamepad, certainly wouldn't do it any justice in my mind as you need the FF to know what is going on.

As for the typical car sliding effect, what do you mean specifically? If you mean low speed sliding, that is something I have a problem with in all sims, rfactor/Simbin also have issues with low speed grip at 30-70mph, almost like there is no mechanical grip at all on the car.

    Thanks for your answer

By "car sliding effect", I mean the weird sensation that was present in Shift 1 & 2, that seem to make the car slide or drift a lot, even if the direction sensibility setting was set to its minimum.
Basically, the car wheels were hurling as soon as you turn, no matter the intensity of the curve...and the car seemed to slide too much.
Maybe this "bug" only appeared when you played with a controller...

Oh yeah, I think I know what you are talking about. That is definitely not present in PCars, atleast not that I can tell with a G25. In Shift2 I would struggle to be pin point accurate, so driving 1ft in from the outside of the track was nigh on impossible, but in PCars, you can, chicanes are now fun too.

I play this with a controller most of the time and most of the cars work fine that way. Some of the more sensitive cars are hard to control but you'd still be able to have fun and drive them like they're meant to be. There's a definite feeling of grip, no permanent understeer like other games have.

Yeah, but none of its optimised properly right now.

With regards to the 360 controller - their going to be adding pad optimisations like Turn 10 did with Forza (and i think Polyphony did with GT5).

    Here's a Fan ad thing i've done.
Its a track intro featuring the corners followed by some action all set to some emotive music to get people into the "racing groove"...

Anyone using Vdub for compression? What codec are you guys using? I find that my image quality was lacking a little bit.

This is looking pretty awesome. I'm trying to talk a friend into signing up with me. Is there any functional multiplayer in these early builds?

I just got into Race07 not too long ago so I'm relativity new to the sim racing scene but I would like something newer to move on to.

Theres no MP just yet. Probably be a few more months yet.
    There is leaderboard compo's though.

This is a great year for sims. Theres around 4-5 coming out (and about 7 if you include Karting sims).

I signed up as a junior just to see what it is like. I'm pretty impressed with it so far especially for being pre-alpha. I only had a short time with my xbox controller but I'm looking forward to hooking up my wheel. Even with the controller the cars handled well.

I'll probably end up upgrading to Team or full member if all goes well.
