    Looking to upgrade my CPU

    my current specs:

CPU - Intel C2D E6300@1.86GHz (I've been told its too slow)
    Mobo - MSI P965 Neo (MS-7235)

I'm a bit of a n00b at this. Looking for some insight. What do you recommend ?

And then there's the overclocking issue. Should I do that instead ?

well you could get something like a E6700 would be fine

but it think you should change your motherboard so you can overclock your cpu to maby 2.6ghz.

I've just checked on MSI's CPU support page: the E6700 is one of the fastest CPU you can get with this board. It is only bested by the X6800, which runs at 2.93GHz.

You're welcome! Never forget, any decent company is supposed to have that kind of information on its website. You should always check on the manufacturer's website first. ;)
