Hi guys, recently I switch from the green team back to the red team, and it has been amazing, however there's a problem that is annoying me a lot, Vsync and game smoothness, it specially occurs with FIFA 15, pretty noticeable, when I was with NVIDIA I haven't had this problem because of Adaptive Vsync I guess, anyway, Is there a way to fix this and make AMD as good as NVIDIA's Adaptive Vsync ? *My card is Asus R9 285 Thanks in advance.
RadeonPro is the go-to app to fix any issues with AMD. Please read through this thread: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18499549
R9 270X here and since FIFA 13 I have problems with smooth gameplay. First it was a GTX 560, now the same thing with AMD. I force Vsync and Triple Buffering through RadeonPro, Disable the Aero theme in the game options along with no fps limit. For me it's the best group of options.
Thanks for the support, I already use RadeonPro, but I couldn't get as smooth as I was used to, I wish Ati Tray Tools could work on Windows 8.1, but anyway, brunopita, do you set the Vsync Control as Dynamic ? Thanks guys. Cheers.
I've been playing around with it and apparently Dynamic is the closest I could get of Adaptive. (Which is the same thing I guess).
Just and update, I managed to solve the smoothness problem in FIFA 15, I still have some performance issues in Battlefield 3/4 but I think that's the driver, I may sound crazy but I feel my GTX760 performed better in BF3 than the R9 285, AMD needs to release a driver to fix this, the GPU usage goes banana instead of being static.
I hate to be "that guy", but for more than half a year now AMD driver quality dropped down the the "terrible" status. Many of my games having issues. D3, Shadow of Mordor, Borderlands 2 (since day one), GW2, Watchdogs, etc. Some of them runs awful (stuttering, fps spikes, flickering, some of them "just" got annoying issues, like small vsynch stuttering, but on the long run when you wanna really get into a game its fking frustrating. Yes I try every damned thing, settings up and down, apps like radeon pro, reinstall windows (just going to reinstall it today again, because the new beta driver totally fked up my machine, flash video+game=cc+game or video Frezee and I can recreate this every damn time). And you know its a driver issue, when two games run really smoothly, for example BF3 and Warframe and the rest having issues with certain settings. This two game I have no clue how but run miraculously smooth (CURRENTLY, because in the past they had lot of issues too), no issues (except the terrible beta issues with Warframe, they just can't code properly, every time they release a patch, new bugs appear, hehe). Last time I ever bough AMD card, and I'm dead serious, even if they advertise and say the cards twice as fast in the future as NVIDIA cards I won't buy them ever again. (switched to HD6990 so I get all the performance I need, and the drivers totally screw up this beast card, I barely see I got a beast in my machine). :bang: No Technical support (tried to contact them only a survey feedback option is there anymore), on forum to write to them is hopeles, only other amd owners will write back to you. No support whatsoever, they do whatever they want with the drivers.
Are you using MSI Afterburner to monitor the usage? If so check settings and enable Unified Gpu Usage Monitoring. It will give a more accurate and consistent reading of gpu usage and can sometimes improve smoothness too. Finally ensure the monitoring time tab of afterburner is at 2,000 or at the very lowest 1,000.
No, I'm monitoring it with the RadeonPro OSD utility, even if the RadeonPro method is not accurate, I can feel the GPU usage dropping, but I'll try with MSI Afterburner, thanks for replying.
I see your point, let's hope they improve their drivers, I still have faith tho, because my GPU has been released 2 months ago and I think they are still optimizing the drivers.
i was having similar issues, noticed that my 7950 was throttling even though the temps were fine. I used msi afterburner to up my power limit 20% and things work much better now.
You basically set your power limit to 120% then ? I don't use Msi Afterburner, I use Asus GPU Tweak for OC, I do have a option to set power target.
