    I have the following Pc:

    • AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 1MB Cache SKT 939 Processor
    • MSI K8N Neo 4 SLI/Platinum Chipset Nforce 4 Ultra SLI Mother Board. Latest Drivers
    • 1.5GB DDR Kingston DDR400 RAM.
    • Sapphire ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB DDR3. Catalyst 6.2 Drivers.
    • Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music. Latest Drivers
    • Thermaltake Power Supply 500W.
    • Seagate Serial ATA 300GB.
    • Gamepad Logitech Cordless Rumblepad. Latest Drivers
    • DVD-burner Lite on 16X Dual Layer.
    • 22 inch COMPAQ Monitor.
    • Wireless Microsoft Keyboard and Mouse. Latest Drivers
    • Windows XP PRO SP2
    • 5.1 Altec Lansing 251 Speakers.

The Pc boots ok, but when I execute a game, lets say Quake 4 or Doom3 instead of executing them inmediatly, it takes 16 secs. to show the first screen: "LOADING GAME". Once you are in the game it works ok, no problems at all then when you exit the game the desktop freezes 10 secs then everything changes to normal.

When I had my old Geforce 7800GTX, I didn't have this issue, it happens just with the ATI X1900XT.

    Can you help me?

Thanks to all, but I found the problem.

The problem is the stupid Catalyst Control Center. In other forum somebody told me to uninstall the CCC and try ATI Tray Tools, finally I can play my games back into normal.

Damn CCC I hate you I waste my time because of you. ATI should do something about this, 'cause I saw in many forums most of the people who own an ATI X1900XT/XTX have the same problem.

I noticed you are not running dual channel mode either, try taking out the 512. It can hurt performance with today's machines.

ccc sucks, I had to remove it too,
But I am running the beta x1900XL.

p.s. I didn't think you could run ddr in dual channel with 1.5gb

Well Rickyx CCC really sucks and the most owful thing is that ATI doesn't realize there is a problem with X1900 Cards and CCC even when I contacted them on the ATI's site.

I don't know if the Drivers 6.2 are wrong but In my opinion X1900 cards sucks.

I'm going to go back with Nvidia, I will buy a Geforce 7800GTX 512MB DDR3, ATI really dissapointed me.

About the monitor I have, well, it's a P1210 Compaq Monitor and of course I'm not impressed at all but it's ok you know 'cause this monitor it's better than a simple 17", dont you think?

CCC and ATI general driver issues are why I scrapped my x1800 XT

So I see that ATI Cards are crap when I have Geforce 2, FX, 6800 and 7800 I didn't have any problem and this X1900XT is bull****, I agree with you

I had a 5200, 6600 GT, 7800 GTX, 7800 GTX 512 and then an x1800 XT. There was no IQ advantage and the drivers were unbearable. I paid $500 for the card to enjoy it, not for it to be the biggest pain of my PC gaming life.

    So, What do you recommend?,

    Two Geforce 7800 GT 256MB DDR3 in SLI or a Single Geforce 7800 GTX 512MB DDR3

    2x GTs are better.
