What shortage is the next I wonder...
The last thing will be the 'shortage of shortage' before everything gets back to normal

how much copper is in a motherboard? 10.000 USD per tonne, is 10 USD per kilo, so 1-2USD of copper per GPU? counting traces and heat pipes?

At this point, I'm already expecting everything to be in shortage.
What will be next? Screws? Paper for the box?

Other metals are available I remember gigabyte boards of old stating a full ounce of copper in every board... Strong traces apparently the gain there

Do you really think that the price hike on the various PC component is a direct result of greed from the manufacturer they produce it from?
The motherboard you buy for 200$USD is now selling for 275$. Why? Shortages. Lack of workforce, copper, rare metals and highly strained global supply chains, yadayadayada... It adds up. There *will* be a shortage of the shortage.

Seriously? If I told you to make a RTX 3080 from scratch, architecture, chip design, etc. Then, when the time comes to make it and mass produce it, your manufacturer tells you "well, I ain't got no chains at all unless... you fork more then I might be able to squeeze a bit more; but you'll have to wait, I have a lack of workers". You planned your 600$ MSRP. You calculate your profit... it dunks a bit, but OK.

Then, after manufacturer calls, they have told you that they aren't able to provide the necessary material at their usual cost and they'll have to raise the price. At this point, you accept anyway, you're not just going to cancel your product. After calculations, you don't have a profit margin anymore. In fact, you are in the red.

Then, all product have to get shipped for assembly. Again, no surprise, the shipping cost to the assembly plant was more expansive than expected... deeper in the red.
You ain't done yet. The assembly was delayed because of, guess what?, workforce. And the workforce remaining pressured their boss for an higher pay. You end up paying more. Again.
Then, your product is all packaged up! It's time to distribute it! You call / email various distributors. They all have no more cargo place or are willing to take your cargo for more money and patience.

Do you still sell this for 600$USD? No sane company, would be willing to lose several hundred dollars per card just to get internet points from a user like you on a forum like this. They're going to recoup it. From who? You and me. The product is easily 900$USD...

Get educated. There's already tons of videos on this matter on YouTube from the big tech YTers.
Heck, I already have a link handy for uplly chain raising cost and fragility: https://www.cnn.com/2021/09/29/business/supply-chain-workers/index.html

We have to suck it up. It won't be pretty for a long long long time.

Okay, is there any good news about gaming parts??? I´m not picky, i will settle for just one good story about how something is going to be widely availble or is going to be cheaper in the near future...

Anyone? Just give me something, even a little bone is good enough...

The demand for copper has been steadily increasing for over a decade. Thanks to EVs, the demand has skyrocketed, since a LOT of copper is needed for the motors and wires.
The computer industry likely doesn't see much more copper consumption than it normally has, so, for once we probably can't blame miners or COVID.

Silver has seen a marked price decline, so I would think at some point considering an alloy of silver/copper and nickel would be on the table.

It may not be the main reason, but almost everything is affected to some degree by the damn COVID, or should I say, the actions to fight it.

Yes, you'd therefore think that this increase in copper price will not really increase the price of GPUs - even if the copper price doubled again from it's current "high" price then that would be only 2-4USD vs 1-2USD per GPU. I can't really see how that's gonna increase retail price of GPUs.

    Stupid clickbait article.

Maybe if your a Plummer or a producer of eclectic wire you will notice the prices going up but less than a few penny`s more on parts that go from 100$ to 2500$ you wont notice a thing...

We need to secure the copper resources, the troops have just been pulled out of Afghanistan where they secured us some energy supplies so no point having them sat on their asses is there.
Let's just make up some bullshit about WMD's or how Chile mistreats women and young girls and get in there.
