I've been running Windows 10 forever and have NEVER seen this during an update.

Suddenly I have hardware that is incompatible? And it doesn't even tell you what hardware... This is the vaguest error message I've ever seen..

    This is my current build

You would think right? But Nope.. Onboard ASUS

Things I've done to troubleshoot this..

    Disabled Onboard Audio via BIOS
    Display Driver Uninstaller (Nvidia 1080)
Ran Samsung Magician to update my SSD Firmware
    Unplugged my USB3 External HDD

Same exact error message... Nothing on my PC hardware wise has changed since 1809 except putting in a new Samsung SSD and USB3 External drive. I'm friggen pissed as this is heading down reinstall territory..

You should've done this in the first place.

No I shouldn't have.. It's a standard update. I'm not in fast ring, or slow ring. This is a standard update to an existing install pushed by Microsoft.. I just did a refresh install a few months ago when putting in a new SSD

    So for shits and giggles

Switched to slow ring - Same error

Switched to fast ring - Installed the latest prerelease 18875 without issue and everything works.

Thanks Microsoft. When betas install but RTM won't. Brilliant

Issue may have been the download was corrupt, and you needed to flush out WU cache.

Yes, I had the same error too until I uninstalled both The Crew 2 and Conan Exiles along with BattlEye. After that I was able to upgrade with no issues.

I have installed The Crew 2 post-install but, unbelievably, on attempting to install BattlEye during the initial load it caused my PC to blue screen (well, green screen) so this software has still NOT been updated. It's ridiculous really considering how long this issue has existed in the pre-release builds of Windows 10 v1903 and higher.

Anyone running this build with the more popular BattlEye titles (no offense to The Crew 2 :) ) like Fortnite, R6: Siege, PUBG?

    1) Can you do the upgrade?
    2) Does BattlEye GSOD when loading?

Warning: What I did notice though, is that you have to run each BattlEye-enabled game at least once to make it replace the outdated BattlEye files in C:/Program Files(x86)/Common Files/Battleye).

You might want to check the date on that Crew 2 BattlEye executable. If the date is old, it might just not have been updated yet. I've got 3 BattlEye games on my system (PUBG, FN, R6:Siege), these are the dates of the BE executables in that Program Files folder after letting them all update and run: https://imgur.com/59OGwum

As you see, they all got updates in March. When running the games, they all spawn a "Bedaisy.sys" file that gets loaded:
    • PUBG spawns one dated on the 25th of february
    • FN spawns one that got signed of on the 23th of March
    • R6:Siege spawns one dated 25th of january (which leads me to believe this game is still not ready - as reported in this reddit report)
Brandon Leblanc (MS team) said the upgrade block was removed for some games just rather recently (2 weeks ago). Iirc, you tried to update sooner, Darren?

I have Conan Exiles installed w/o BattleEye and it upgraded to 1903 w/o issue. FYI.

Just for clarity: English is not my native language, but sure that first "w/o" should be "with", right? Cannot install Conan Exiles without BattlEye. :)

(Also: edited my post above with more info I researched by analyzing my BE files :) )

Have you checked your new windows installation x64 or x86.. compared to the current one.

    Both must be the same.

Funfact: The battle eye driver can be user updated by copying the driver binary to the relevant directory the game installs it from, from a game known to already be updated.

Source? You mean copying the BeDaisy.sys that these executables spawn?

when I had that problem going from 1803 to 1809 I simply made a boot usb stick and upgraded that way booted to the stick and installed Windows 10 x64 pro 1809 as an upgrade as every other way via WU just failed and rolled back after 99% finished

Unrelated. It's the 1809->1903 upgrade that has/had trouble with Battleye

Uhm, the installer gave an option for BattleEye, and certain online servers require BE, but it's an optional install.
