It does use CryEngine - https://prey.bethesda.net/.
Looks like an updated sequel to the X-Com Classified version that never came out! I'm going to pretend its just that and ignore the Prey linkage as I liked the first one a lot, but this looks good enough to warrant a play on its own.
I love a great horror survival type game since RE and Deadspace.
People really need to differentiate between pre rendered light paths and realtime lighting and also the difference in overall energy consumption of it and time effort on the studio production side
CryEngine still does a great Realtime Job and not many people can handle its full potential still as of today
Seeing another AAA Studio taking on the Adventure is nice, especially with crazy Gameplay concepts that require some heavier implementation work
CryEngine can push some Amazing realtime GFX on Screen with minimal Pre backeing and you can do Pre backed stuff at very fast speeds as well
And it has overall a very low middleware footprint to achieve this
looks like dishonored with guns and Quake 4 graphics.
another soulless mediocre shooter
Here's the full gameplay video, not the cut down one they showed at the Awards show.
Really shows what opinions can do, because I think this looks great.
Arkane have never disappointed. All their games have been a blast to play, and I'm really excited for this one.
Also, as much as I loved Human Head's PREY 2... and I would've LOVED to have played that. If we can't have HH's version, I would rather it be this.
I would rather another studio make it their own instead of trying to copy what HH did with PREY 2.
Ive just watched the video you posted, and my opinion stays the same , it looks quite outdated. not one WOW moment in there for me.
I guess Cryengine and IDTech6 look a lot alike, but odd they aren't going with IDTech6.
Development started in 2013, idTech 6 wasn't finished yet. Also, the look is determined by the art, not the engine.
Knowing what happened to Prey 2, I'm really hoping this fails commercially just out of pure spite for Bethesda. I couldn't think less of the people involved. I wonder if there will be some kind of leaks approaching launch that give this project unprecedented bad PR? I certainly hope so.
It made me think of Bioshock.
Yeah, imo Crysis3 didn't look so good and it had more adv gfx.
Speaking of Prey, its more of a object adventure with fps bits in it and those alien shadows look a bit crappy too xD
Ok towards the end by that big "shadow alien" its intense, but overall nothing special, really shame.
Why would you want Arkane to fail just because of a strained relationship between ZeniMax and Bethesda.
Sorry, but that kind of thinking is horribly childish and ignorant.
Arkane are a fantastic studio that delivers amazing titles with fun, engaging experiences.
If we can't get HH's PREY 2, a new take on the concept form such a talented studio as Arkane is fantastic.
I would've loved to have played Human Head's PREY 2. But, I respect the studios decision to not cave into ZeniMax's actions, and remain independent.
But, if HH can't do the game they wanted to... I'm glad someone else is using the IP for something at least.
The only people I'd want to touch Tommy's universe would be Human Head.
Zero integrity. Strained relationship is being very generous. No, I won't support ****-tier people like Pete Hines and Robert Altman. Human Head worked on the Prey series for a decade. You can't even purchase their title. Zenimax are trying to wipe it from history.
Big difference between using the name using the ip, right?. Disregarding everything Human Head and 3D Realms worked on is an absolute insult. Prey 1 ends with a tribute to a developer who contributed to the second iteration at 3DR. The derivative folks at Arkane outright ignore decades of history and instead offer little winks to Looking Glass Studios.
What's childish is using another game's legacy to push forward a love of uninspired re-imaginings is not something to be celebrated.
You have no idea how bad it was for Human Head Studios. This title supports Bethesda's lie that they weren't up to the task; bogus bull**** that goes unchallenged by dorks who lose any sense of reason when they hear 'immersive-sim'. **** 'em.
Hopefully someone at Arkane has a conscious and leaks Prey 2 shortly before launch so people can see just how much they've been lied to. Even if only one person decides not to buy it from a hypothetical event like that, it will be worth it.
Regardless, I hope PREY is a commercial failure like Dishonored 2.
Attaching an existing IP to some random game in order to boost sales... pathetic. The game may or may not be trash or good or whatever, pressing a.. preliminary delete on this one.
It's using the latest version of CryEngine. CryEngine 5 I believe.
idTech6 was not ready when Arkane started work on PREY. So, they opted to license an engine.
That's not going to boost sales. And it's something Arkane have commented on. Stating that if anything, this not being a continuation of the original will put off old fans.
Making the sale even harder, and possibly costing them sales in the end.
It's ignorant to believe they used the PREY name because they wanted to try and bank sales off of it.
While Arkane did have an idea in the works for some time to make a spiritual sequel to System Shock 2... when they got the chance to make a PREY game, they went back and completely redid the story and core elements of the gameplay.
The main theme of PREY was always the contrast between the hunted and the prey. And that element still rings true in this new game.
I love the original 2006 PREY. Tommy was a fantastic character.
But, if Human Head Studios and 3D Realms are not the ones developing and producing it, I would much rather have them do something completely different then have a different studio try and continue it.
And Arkane continue to make exceptional games. From Arx Fatalis through Dark Messiah to the DisHonored series.
There's little reason to believe this game won't be incredible in it's own rite.
It's a good thing that you've decided it wont make money and that brand recognition isnt a thing. Would've never managed to figure these things out by my self.
*Delete not getting pressed harder in presence of blind Arkane fan*
Gotta love how people react when they don't hate something the way others feel they should.
I don't hate it, so... resort to tired name calling. Fanboy. Ohhh... scathing.
Reminds me of the first version of X-Com Declassified with the X-Files Black Oil type symbiotic organism. I loved that design and will play this as a make believe X-Com title instead of Prey.
But I have to admit I will miss Prey 2. That looked like the Guardians of the Galaxy type shoot em up humor game I had been wishing for. HH Prey 2 was definitely more fun looking.
