First hour of the game... Also, this is PC footage. Looks to be running smoothly. Also, the game itself looks fantastic. Very heavy System Shock 2 influence.
Yes... because turning yourself into a coffee cup to get through a small opening has been done in so many games. Seriously though, all gameplay has been done before. Specially in FPS games. It's all been done before to varying degrees. I mean, all DisHonored did was build upon the footprints of Thief and Deus Ex. PREY is building upon System Shock 2. Arkane's influences are pretty obvious and they don't try to hide it. And I think it looks great. Looks more true to System Shock 2 then BioShock. And visually, again, I think it looks good. Is it cutting edge? No. But, not ever game needs to be. And, like DisHonored, PREY looks to have a slightly skewed art style... and I love it for it. For me, games that strive to look as realistic as possible... just kind of bore me. Like, the Battlefield games. Yeah, they look great... but, meh. Give me something slightly stylized anyday.
Is it just me or the original "Prey 2" story/gameplay was much more compelling? I watched the whole hour of gameplay yesterday and i constantly keep hearing myself "i already seen that, i already did that". For some reason Cryengine does not work for me. Sometimes it looks great, sometimes very bland and i still have nightmares from some previous games based on that engine. They should've sticked with Id tech engine for Prey like they originally planed.
Cryengine is a technically better engine, but ID Tech would suit this game artistically. Good artists should be able to do a good job no matter though. I'm on the fence with this, it definitely doesn't appeal to me as much as previously, but it looks decent.
Well running around and killing things with a wrench is one of the most boring things these days. They could have picked any other weapon ,but no it had to be the wrench. The style of prey give it a cheap plastic look. It doesnt have to be realistic , but more effort on the textures sure is wanted. it wouldnt surprise me if they copied textures straigth from dishonored 2. The gameplay resembles halflife and systemshock a bit too much for me. The cancelled prey 2 would have been 100x better then this one. Too bad!
Arkane never planned to used idTech. And, after DisHonored II's release... I don't think people would be excited it Arkane announced PREY was using idTech. And, Human Head were using idTech4... the Doom 3 Engine. While I still would love to be able to play PREY 2, we saw less of it then we've seen of this PREY. But, I do love how people are saying this game isn't PREY... because it doesn't have portals, the aliens from the Sphere... Tommy... the Native American spiritual stuff. You mean... just like PREY 2? No portals. No Sphere. Tommy only as a side character, for a small portion of the story. And none of the Native American spiritual stuff. Human Head commented that the title PREY... had nothing to do with portals or Tommy to them. To them, it was the meaning of prey/hunter. Being the prey, and becoming the hunter. As for the engine, I have no issues with CryEngine. It's not a widely used engine, true, but there's nothing stopping it from being great here. Any engine is only as good as the studio using it. So, the limitations here are on Arkane, not the engine. Any art design they could do in idTech they can also do here. Hell, DisHonored was in Unreal Engine 3, and DH2 was idTech (Void). But, I love the System Shock 2 themes, vibes... it's what I wanted in BioShock. And was disappointed that BioShock bailed on.
Didnt the demo of the canceled Prey 2 was using Id tech 5? As for Dishonored 2 and Void aka Id tech 5 engine i think your right. It was a mess at the release and even now isnt that much better. @Rich i expected higher system req. on the GPU side. I dont think GTX970 and R9 290 are capable running this maxed out. Who knows, things can change until 5th may.
Until they are officially announced by Bethesda, I'm gonna take those with a grain of salt. Normally, Bethesda doesn't release the requirements until a few weeks before release. This is a few months still... But, being on the CryEngine, I wouldn't be surprised if those are accurate. The engine is not nearly as demanding as a lot of the other options out there. When it was first announced that Human Head were working on PREY 2, there was an article that it was using idTech5. But, Human Head shot that down pretty quickly. Stating they were using a heavily modified version of the same engine they used on the first game.
A pretty in depth look into the preview event Bethesda did. He comments that they were all playing the PC build, Bethesda was very clear that this was not a final build... and was subject to change. But, he commented that at 1080p, it ran at a constant 60fps for the entire preview.
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1359924 Demo on April 27th, but it's PS4 and XBO only so I don't know, not exactly encouraging for the PC version of the game if they don't want to show it off but there could be other reasons too.
