PREY (2017) | Prey 2 [Cancelled]

I love this game.
I know Arkane Lyon are taking a break from DisHonored to work on other projects, like helping with Wolfenstein and their new IP Deathloop.

But, I really hope Arkane Austin announce soon that they are working on PREY 2.

 

Game is blurry af. It's like somebody rubbed Vaseline over my screen when I viewed your pics in fullscreen.

I absolutely loved Prey. Shame it didn't do very well at launch, but I think it's gathered quite an audience by now. I'm not necessarily looking for a sequel, but definitely want Arkane to make more of the awesome stuff they make!

 

I'm going to replay this soon as well. It is already on my top 20 list of all time just from it's first playthrough. I really hope Arkane keeps making these types of games. They really are carrying the torch of Looking Glass Studios and keeping 0451 alive.

Not to mention there is that DLC that I haven't tried yet. I hear it's a rogue-like FPS twist of Prey.. sounds cool.

Took the time to add these lines to the config file and add some sharpening with Nvidia game filter.

Agreed. I love sci-fi exploration games with horror/thriller elements and this hit all the right notes. And yes this game would have been out-of-this-world with proper ray-traced GI, shadows and reflections. Here's hoping that one day we'll get the whole package. Maybe in PREY 2

I've been interested in this game since release but it's still sitting on my wishlist / games to get.

I've found it difficult to read reviews as they range from praise to not really liking the game, so guess personal tastes matter a lot.
More negative ones say combat is clunky but do you think that's true?

Naturally this isn't a run-and-gun game but for me this can be a deal breaker. Mainly that I want response to be good, both input and feedbackwise.
Ie. no lag or strange smoothing (mouse) and audiovisual feedback from shooting, if that makes sense.

 

Much closer to system shock I'd say. I mean, bioshock is system shock inspired but not quite as "shock-y" as Prey.
The publisher just screwed up with the name. Something like MindShock would've been far more fitting. Probably would've sold a lot better than it did without its current.. unfortunate name.

 

Yeah, original internal name was Typhon.
Some wanted to call it Typhon Shock, and there were a few other names they kicked around.

But, ZeniMax had to use the Prey IP for something, so... they slapped it on this "untitled" Arkane property.
It's easier to market an existing name then a brand new one.

 

Surprised there is no thread for this game. All search results for Prey bring up the 2006 release. If no one can point me to it, will post here anything related to it.

Amazing game and a perfect example of how creative it allows you to be to achieve your objectives.

I was getting creamed by this voltaic phantom. Yet a simple resourceful solution was all it took in the live exam room. So ingenuity can get you much further than whatever powers, skills you may have.

I'm also currently playing it since it was in my backlog (Steam version). I really like it since it's so much different than a typical shooter. For one thing, only a few weapons do actual damage and next thing is that you can get killed very easily so resourcefulness and sometimes avoiding enemies is the key rather than "CoD run and gun".

 

I'm sad Prey 2017 didn't get a sequel. My favorite immersive sim other than maybe the original Deus Ex. What they did with Mimics and Glue Gun are, in my mind at least, very innovative mechanics and it felt great solving some of the objectives in ways that probably weren't the intended route.

One of the best openings to any game ever imo, really enjoyed this one. Apparently it didn't sell too well though which is a bummer.

I do think they probably shouldn't have called this Prey since it doesn't have anything much to do with the original. I imagine that hurt more than it helped.

 

Mods pls merge as you see fit. Suggest a renaming of the orig thread to Prey 2017. Since the orig thread started in 2011 with title referring to Prey 2 cancelled project, it will throw ppl off searching for the game.
