All the preview events they did a few months back, where people got to play the first hour of the game, every single one of those were played on PC.

And, the only place that reported "issues" was PC Gamer. With most other places stating performance held a solid 60fps and felt very smooth.
So, they've already shown the PC version a lot, not to regular players... but still.

Well perhaps, it is Cry-Engine this time and not IDTech/Void so that should hopefully avoid the stuttering issues and other problems. :)
(Far as I remember at least, think they're still using CryEngine for this game after licensing it.)

All I want is an FPS that visually sets the bar on PC. I was hoping this would be it, but yet another title gets gimped to the almighty console. Next..

Yeah, they are using the latest version of CryEngine for this.
And, the former Crytek engineer now works at id, so Arkane have direct access to him through Bethesda.

They said somewhere that Bethesda actually gave them more time for PC specific optimization and work. Otherwise, the game would've came out sooner this year.

EDIT: Personally, I'd rather have a good looking shooter that's fun. A game doesn't need to set any bar to be worthwhile.
Specially since what looks good to one person, doesn't to another.

Movie wise, I felt District 9 was a better looking movie then Avatar. Because I hated Avatar's neon fueled bull.
Game wise, I prefer Mirror's Edge's clean, colorful aesthetic over Crysis' realistic looking world.

PREY is doing what Arkane are good it, a unique, slightly skewed art style that gives it it's own personality.

Disappointing, but hardly surprising about the demo.
I know it's extra work, but....

I think the game looks fine, and visually setting the bar on PC is high resolutions like 4k at playable framerates.
Not convinced on the game though, and without a demo and me not getting a console until later this year i will just have to judge by watching.

MY PS4 Pro hits 4k. I want details. Better lighting, higher resolution textures, etc. Stuff a PC can take advantage of. Instead, were getting another port.

I have a old tablet that supports 4k, doesn't mean much.

There will be additional stuff for the PC, but the enthusiast PC market is too small for anyone to waste time going overboard with such stuff, these days most PC gamers prefer a nicely optimised 1:1 port that can run maxed at 4k/60 or 1440/144.

We have PC exclusives like Star Citizen or tech demos like 3D Mark that target just the PC if we want to see hardware pushed.

Arkane have always been devs who were about gameplay more than graphics, imo anyway.

Bethesda have officially released the System Requirements for PREY

    Also, pre-load and unlock times.

Yes. They put a demo out on consoles, because they are worried about sales on the consoles.
They are trying to improve the game's reception on the console market.

You think they'd be a bit concerned about PC sales as well considering the botch Dishonored 2 port they gave us last year! Game still runs like ass, especially when compared to DOOM. Hopefully Prey won't have that problem though being it's on Cryengine and a demo would put peoples minds at ease. Still, I've held off pre-ordering Prey because Dishonored 2's optimization left a bad taste in my mouth.

How DisHonored 2 currently runs is definitely different from user to user.
At release, yeah, I ran into lots of frame rate issues. Now, runs much better.

I went ahead and pre-purchased PREY because... the game looks awesome, despite it's technical issues, DH2 is still a great game.
The first DisHonored was fantastic. And, if I cut out a developer because they released a game with issues... I'd have noone to follow. ;) Hell, I wouldn't have pre-purchased DOOM because RAGE had all sorts of issues at release.

But, a while back a BUNCH of console players were complaining on their forums. All the preview events Bethesda did back in February, were all done on the PC version. Every last one.
So, we got a lot of PC footage with all those "First hour of gameplay" videos. And, a lot of console players complained that Bethesda was focusing on the PC too much (funny how it's always back and forth).

So, to me the demo just feels like damage control to try and encourage console gamers to try the game.

But, with the preview events, the fact that it's on CryEngine, the fact that it's a different Arkane studio... I'm hoping this one delivers on PC like Arkane said it would.
They said late last year they were giving special attention to the PC version, ensuring they didn't have a repeat of DH2's PC release.

After trying the PS4 demo and experiencing the clunky, uninspired gameplay, I'm 100% guaranteed to bomb across all platforms. That despeate demo will cost them so many pre-orders.

It features incredibly lame call-outs to former game journos, with a bunch of characters named after 1UP staff and 4th wall-breaking naval-gazing callbacks to Looking Glass, with no mention of anything Human Head related ever.

This is Bioshock without an original premise. Play Prey side-by-side against Dishonored 2, and you'll freak out: how did a studio make possibly the most gorgeous game of 2016 release such an ugly, dated mess 9 months later? B-team.

The only solace is that we'll never see a Prey 2 that builds of Arkane's game in any form, so Zenimax can't try to erase that part of history.

I played the 13 GB demo on my PS4 Pro over the weekend. Apparently there's an issue with that version that results in heavier than normal controller response and, sure, it definitely feels off but not so much so that it put me off playing. I really enjoyed it actually; it feels very much like the first BioShock where the emphasis is as much on exploration as combat and there's an overarching sense of mystery. I found the plot intriguing; I wanted to know more so I pre-ordered the game for PC.

Personally, I don't think the game looks like great for a 2017 title but that's not to say it looks bad. It just looks like a game from 5 years ago IMO; overall modelling is fine but textures are a mixed bag and the game isn't seamless but split into sections with (lengthy on the PS4 Pro) loading screens between them. Those should be better on PC though and I'm hoping that the texture quality is better too.

Very much looking forward to playing this come Friday.

so that's is why i felt so uncomfortable with it

if it's problematic on console and got no PC demo i can't imagine how bad the game will run this friday

And zero reason to believe so.

But... since people need a random voice to follow...

Mack says he was told the PC build ran flawlessly.
The issue in the demo, from what I've been told, is specific just to the demo and isn't present in the full game.

I am interested in this but to say "best game since HL2" is absolutely absurd.
