Really, still over 6 months away for the high-end VEGA? No wonder Nvidia didn't announce the 1080Ti at CES. They are just waiting for AMD to catch-up and as soon as they do the 1080Ti will be released.

Seems AMD has basically fell a generation behind. Not to soon after VEGA is out, Nvidia will be on to their next gen (end of 2017) and AMD will once again have no answer.

I was really looking forward to seeing something announced at CES for new GPUs.

As always great article Hilbert. Surely makes sense to go enterprise first if it's more profitable, even though I'd like to seem some consumer stuff sooner. There is a lot of catching up to do in the enterprise area.

    Thats all I care about.

They said H1 which means Q2 at the earliest, which means April at the earliest.
    Assuming all goes well.

Yet if it's April, they could have gotten away by calling it Q1
(look at Zen aka "sampling in Q4 2016")
, so it's proly not April.

    Which means May/June.

    TL DR;
April at the earliest, realistically more likely May/June.

Has Nvidia announced when the next Graphic series is coming? I feel even the end of 17 is too soon for the next gpu architecture from Nvidia to be released. I would say more the mid to end of 18.

This is quite sad really, by the time they release Nvidia will have 1080Ti coming right after it. And then several months later they will release 1180... at 1000$ per card. GG

Volta isnt ready and wont be for long time and 1080ti is just crippled TXP.

OK Boss, doesn't this also mean that all Vega reveals so far have been using an enterprise-class gpu and not a consumer version as has been expected? I assume this because I get the impression that the consumer version is not finalised yet.

Exactly, even though I wanted to buy a 1080Ti initially, I'm SO GLAD that I got this 1070 at release instead and did not wait. It might be an entire year between the 1070/1080 and 1080Ti release if this go on like this.

Ironically, AMD's delay saved me a lot of money, because at this pace, by the time nvidia release the 1080Ti, the 1180 or whatever it will be called will be literally around the corner.

The only thing left to hope, it that the most high end card of AMD whenever it comes out will be comparable to the 1080Ti (NOT 1070/1080), if that's no the case, like you said, one can be sure the 1180 will be 1000$...

Yes and no, the previews that have been shown are running on early sample engineering boards, not MI25 boards. With that in mind, the perf numbers you see remain speculation as the boost frequencies might change (positively).

I suppose you are working at Nvidia? We all knew they were waiting for HBM2... there's nothing pointing to further delays. Unless you can share some insider information...

Yep and if we assume that things go like in the past, 1080Ti will be 30% faster than 1080. Could be even more, if they go with HBM2 too. AMD has a lot to do, if they want to be at the top when Vega is out.

What is even more sad is by the time high-end VEGA is released the Titan X would have been out for over a year and AMD still probably will not be able to compete !

I can't see how they could ever catch-up at this point.

Although I would love to see it happen, the reason it won't is because of the lack of what we all want, genuine competition.

Nvidia can easily release a whole new range of cards with just the inclusion of HBM2. The market is allowing them to string out the upgrades bit by bit at their own pace.

Volta is already in their Automotive AI computer.

TechReport is saying Vega is between 1070 and 1080 in Doom. Grain of salt needed.
