Guys I'm prepping an interview with an ATI GPU product manager / designer. Topics will be 4890 / DX11 /etc

If you have a good question you like to have asked, then please let me know in this thread.

I'll check up in this thread and pick out some of the more interesting questions then.

Can you please ask if game profiles will be added ? (like Nvidia has them) and when ?

Do ATI have any plans to implement a CUDA like suplement?

Hilbert can you tell them that they have lost customers due to the non existent game profiles (i sold my dual 4870X2's and went back to Nvidia)

No point having these awesome cards, if the driver support is terrible. People are still complaining about the naff drivers and they are on 9.3 now!

    Will ATi ever support PhysX/CUDA?

What can we expect of R800?

    ,R800 based?
Gonna have to build a new rig soon, :pc1:
Just want to see if I can hold out that long

    • Questions
Will the current dx10.1 cards be compatible with dx11
Will ATi make up for a CUDA supplement
What u'd be the date regarding ATi to support dx11
      Will the HD4890 have a X2 model
What will dx11 have impressions on games

    • Offtopic Questions
Will there be 5000 series like the 4000 one

Will ATi cards have dedicated PPUs on them in the future?
Are ATi implementing the full range of features for DX11 into their cards? Also will there be any other features, either enhanced over DX11 standard or completely new?
Will any future cards feature dual core GPU?

are they planning going mainstream or highend after 4890(i mean are they going to compete with nvidia all the way, or are they keeping it cheap)

It would be nice to know their views on ray tracing especially now that Caustic Graphics have some interesting add on hardware that works with GPU and CPU to produce ray traced graphics.

    Be more specific lol.

Has ATI been contacted by a company called DMW (its an on line anti-cheat tool) Users of ATI products and DMW encountered corruption (graphics) that might be interpreted as attempting to bypass the ant-cheat tool?

How does this product manger recommend installing new drivers on Vista platforms, and NOT after a fresh install of windows?

I would like you to ask them this:

    1) When or why havnt game profiles been implemented in the drivers like nvidia have it. Would help alot with older games that still have issues with for example AA.

    2) Ray traces, what are their plans on that

    3) Side-port, will it ever work, will it be implemented and if not why did they say it would be just an easy tweak on driver level?

    3) What are their view on having so far between drivers, we want more frequent drivers, beta drivers, that will weed out all the problems before they get ported to the "final WHQL" driver, thinking of 9.3 wich is terrible, talking about 9.2 and 9.1 that both has worse performance compared to 8.12 hotfix.

    4) Havoc, all and anything they have to say about their take on HAVOC and AMD stream vs OpenCL as the accelerator/platform.

Since the x64 bit platform is pretty much mainstream: when can we expect the driver support for the Avivo™ Package for Windows Vista (64-bit)?

Is there a side port on the RV790?
Why not 40nm instead of 55nm?
Who will produce the newer gpu's from ATi (RV790 included)? (TSMC or globalfoundries)

    DX11
    Will DX11 include just openCL?
How will DX11/OpenCL change ATi steam processing?

    Drivers
Avivo doesn't seem to work on Vista 64 will this be fixed or improved (video encoding/decoding on gpu)?

DX11 includes compute shaders, similar to OpenCL, but they're like mortal enemies.

More or less what putty asked: ATI was said to focus on the mainstream market with their most recent cards, yet their top cards can compete very well with nVidia's flagships. Is this just a coincidence and are the testers and end-users keeping alive the ATI-vs-nVidia battle while ATI does not intend to, or is ATI still trying to serve the high-end market?

    1. Will Havok physics acceleration be supported through OpenCL or AMD Stream? If Stream, then how does AMD plan to compete against Nvidia with the technology, or even third party development on OpenCL/DX11?

    2. There has been a lot of questions regarding backwards compatibility involving DX11 and 10.1/10. What main features of DX11 will and will not be backwards compatible?

    3. What will become of AMD's proprietary tessellation engine now that DX11 calls for it's own? What will happen to previous titles that supported AMD's tessellation?

    4. Going forward - it appears that AMD's strategy for targeting the mid-range market then scaling accordingly is extremely effective. Will AMD continue this approach with future series? What advantage does this strategy give over Nvidia's build a giant chip approach?

Hilbert please ask them what kind of improvement they can do to ccc and the drivers in order to keep their customers , as said before they lost many customers due to poor drivers support and ccc , errors and bsod. Drivers , Drivers , Drivers...
It all comes down to driver support in order for a lot of us to even reconsider buying an ATI card again. Thats why i sold my 2 4870x2 and went with GTX 285 , Zeus was dismantle due to above mentioned problems. Thank you.

    chispy.
