As many of you may know, the Sega Dreamcast sports some form of PowerVR chipset. I was wondering if it was the Kyro chipset maybe? It is also quite possible that they designed a special accelerator specifically for the DC.

Some of you guru's may have heard that Sega was originally working a deal with 3dfx, in hopes that they would design the chipset for the DC. Apparently the deal fell through due to Sega getting a better deal and a slightly faster/more powerful chipset from PowerVR. Anyone have any info on this? I know Bugsy is currently looking into it
I have no clue as to why the Dreamcast failed. Great hardware, great games, Visual Memory Cards, lots of 3rd party support, Sega's gaming ISP (Seganet), and the list goes on and on. It was a great system in many ways and Im sad and shocked to see Sega drop off the charts for good. Why does every company I invest my money in go out of business? lol
Intel. Sega is already out, except for game manufacturing.
The chip in Sega Dreamcast was called the PowerVRDC (for obvious reasons). The PowerVRDC was a slight variation of the PowerVR 2 based Neon 250 graphics card (the PowerVR chip before Kyro 1) which was released only in the U.K. This card was actually brilliant for its time featuring FSAA and Dot3 bumpmapping with 1 pixel pipe and 1 TU and the same tile based rendering featured in Kyro 1 and II. But manufacturing all the Dreamcast chips put the release of the Neon 250 back a long time. When it was finally released cards like the Geforce were starting to be released which is why the Neon only ended up having a small release in the U.K only (it would have originally been released against the Voodoo2 if it wasn't for obligations towards Dreamcast and Naomi 1). Its also the same graphics chip thats used in Naomi 1 and Naomi 2 arcade machines. Naomi 1 has two PowerVRDC chips while Naomi 2 has 2 PowerVRDC chips along with a PowerVR hardware T&L unit called Elan.
