Don't take this the wrong way, but i've noticed that in lots of members sig Power Supply Units are 1000w or even higher. Why would you need your power supply rated so high?
I understand that today's systems can demand lots of power, but surely 1000w and higher is surely overkill.

Yes it is overkill. Even for quad SLi. The only real justifiable reason to get that big of a power supply is if your running a massive raid set up and/or are heavily overclocking (on top of quad SLi/Crossfire). Other wise it makes no sense.

    I agree.

1000w and more psu's are for people that have 3/4 gpu's, high end quad core cpu's and wanna overclock them to the extreme!
