    whenn i started on guru3d forums my pc at the time was a c2duo E6850 on a gigabyte p45 board i had 4gb of corsair dominator ddr2 ram and a radeon hd2600pro and i tv card (cheap one ) and one hdd and a 2yr old dvd burner all in a gigabyte aurora case.

    now my pc rates according to Au PCPOWERPLAY magazine i have half way between THE BEASTIE and THE BEAST

    my new specs are below in my profile and my avatar is my current chassis (coolermaster HAF 932) i also have a new second hdd as well as a new dvd burner and a brand new HDTV card that does all it decoding on its own processor (wich is a far cry better than previos tv card )

    I posted in this thread over a year ago now. That's kind of crazy.

    CPU: Athlon 64 X2 4400+ (s939) (would not overclock for anything) -> Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 3GHz -> Core 2 Quad Q6600 -> Core i7 920 -> Phenom II 965 BE

    GPU: EVGA 7800GTX KO -> EVGA 8800GTX -> PowerColor HD 4870 -> Powercolor HD 4870 + Gigabyte HD 4870 in CrossFireX -> XFX HD 5870 XXX Edition

    Motherboard: ASUS A8N SLI Premium (primary PCI-E lane died) -> DFI LanParty UT CFX-3200 (worst driver support ever) -> EVGA 680i SLI (internal power surge blew it up) -> ASUS PQ5 Deluxe -> EVGA X58 SLI LE -> Gigabyte EX58-UD5P -> Gigabyte EX58-UD4 -> Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P

    PSU: Antec NeoPower 480 -> Silverstone 560 -> ThermalTake 750 (the unit that surged) -> Antec 850 -> Corsair HX750W

    Case: Antec P180 -> Antec Nine Hundred -> CoolerMaster Cosmos 1000 -> CoolerMaster HAF 932

    Memory: 4x512MB Patriot DDR-400 -> 2x1024MB OCZ DDR-400 -> 4x1024MB Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800 -> 2x1024 Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800 and 2x2048MB G.Skill DDR2-1066 @ 800 -> 2x2048 Corsair Dominator DDR2-1066 and 2x2048MB G.Skill DDR2-1066 -> 6x2GB OCZ Gold DDR3-1600 @ 1066MHz -> 6x2GB Corsair XMS3 1600 @ 1066 -> 4x2GB OCZ Gold DDR3 @ 1333

    Sound card: SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS -> X-Fi Fatal1ty (I wouldn't have even considered it had it not been on sale for less than the Gamer) -> X-Fi Fatal1ty Titanium

    HDD: Started out with IDEs and have since gone to all SATA, plus one external.

    Monitor: Samsung 19" CRT -> Samsung 19" LCD -> Acer AL2216W -> Dell WFP2407-HC

    Yes, I went from an i7 to Phenom II. I grew tired of trying to get 12GB working correctly and as you can see I went through two types, and three sets, of memory, three motherboards and never found stability even below stock speeds. I had intended to go with a 965 in the first place and should have stuck with that plan as it would've saved me so much time and money.

    CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 (stock due to crappy ECS mobo) -> Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (3GHz stock volts)
    GPU: ATi Radeon 9550 (a 9550 AGP from when cards still had dedicated vertex processors :D ) -> EVGA GeForce 8800GS (96SP, 192-bit GDDR3 variant) -> XFX GTX 260 Core 216
    Motherboard: ECS P4M800Pro -> Gigabyte P35-DS3L
    PSU: Ultra 400W V-series -> Ultra 400W X-Connect -> Corsair 400CX
    Case: el-cheapo Ultra mid-tower ATX case -> slightly improved el-cheapo Ultra mid-tower ATX case
    Memory: 1GB DDR-400 (mix of 512MB Kingston HyperX and OCZ budget RAM) -> 2GB Crucial BallistiX DDR2-800 (dreaded batch 97432) -> 4GB Crucial BallistiX DDR2-800 (added in some batch 101476 (?) RAM which wasn't much better) -> 4GB Kingston HyperX DDR2-1066
    Sound card: Onboard RealTek 5.1 (6ch) -> Onboard RealTek 7.1 (8ch)
    HDD: 200GB Maxtor IDE 7200RPM 8MB cache -> 200GB Maxtor SATA 7200RPM 8MB cache -> 200GB Maxtor + 640GB Seagate 7200.12 -> 200GB Maxtor + 640GB Seagate 7200.12 + 1TB Samsung SpinPoint F3
    Monitor: Some 17" Micron CRT -> Samsung 943BW (19" 1440x900)

    My first system was a prime example of how not to make a decent build. That was back when the E4300s were $200 a pop. And when 9550's were still in production (albeit already 5-year old parts at that time). At least my current system is decent, and I've already begun slowly amassing the parts for a new system (although I probably won't assemble it until summer at the earliest).

    I may have been a member for quite a while but I only upgrade by generation or if I see a good upgrade (without spending too much ie: bro/friend buy's my old parts etc...), I do 80% of my gaming on the 360 so most of the time I don't upgrade as much :p.

    I can't even remember what's in my current rig... I was in a tizzy the day I threw it together. It's not what the profile says...tis an i7 and hmm HD4890 sounds right...think I was using a P4 and 9600Pro AGP when I joined...and a sweet little 420W Enlight/Delta PSU with Rubycon caps :D
