New to Guru3d - started into oc'ing my old 8800 and getting a GTX260 next week for my second gaming/photoshop box. My first post is here because it caught my attention: photography - my other passion.

Ok, its also my career, where I shoot youth sporting events and have up to 100 computers onsite to sell pix to parents/competitors. So ironically, I have way more invested in computers than I do camera gear, but here is my list:

Photography is also my career but my kit list is rather small compared to others!

On a usual day I tend to bring:

Canon 5D
24-70 f2.8L
70-200 F4 L
50mm F1.8
580ex Flash
Remote triggers/loads of memory cards/batteries/reflectors/tripod/flash stand

For my personal work I tend to shoot with a Mamiya RB67 with 50mm and 127mm lenses. Canon A2 laying around, not getting much use.

I feel like I reached that point where I don't really need any more kit. Any other lenses would be a luxury, although I am considering upgrading 70-200 into the 2.8 version (possibly with IS, but that is not really important).

 

Thats kool. So you make prints onsite to sell right then and there?
(thats a load of lenses!)

 

Apart from several Canon 35mm camera and a whole host of FD lenses, i now mainly use my..
Canon 400D + grip.
Sigma 18-200 lens (not a bad lens, has given great results, and even give me first place in a competition).
Sigma 10-20 lens (not been used any where near as much as i should have used it).
Canon 100-400L (great lens for motorsport).
Canon 60mm (great for portraites and 1:1 macro work).
I also have several flashes and also a studio kit.

Its not really a business, but i have had some good fun with it, made a little bit of money and won a few competitions.

Fancy going full frame when i can afford it, but not in any rush.

 

I don't have much just started getting into photography at the end of last year.

Canon 40D
Canon: 17-85 IS USM, 70-300 IS USM, and next month I should have my 60mm macro.

Planning on getting some better/different lenses when I can find a job.

 

Event photography

I used to print onsite. Rarely still do. We found that SELLING onsite is the key to sales. Online sales will only get about 1/5 (at best) of the revenue that we get compared to selling onsite.

What we do is generally take photos with multiple shooters from different angles of a performance. We get about 100 shots per shooter in two minutes. We download all those to the team name and have them for display/purchase on our viewstation computers less than a minute after the team is done performing. Then take all the pix back to our office, upload them onto my web server, and print out all the orders that we got from the show and mail them. Turns out, mailing the orders is cheaper than staffing a printer, carrying the hardware, supplies, setting up and maintaining that operation. Instead, we devote more money and space to more computers that can make us more money with impulse buyers.

We shoot up to 100,000 photos per day, covered as many as 10,000 competitors per day, and our last show, we burned 14,000 discs in one day to give all of the competitors their photos that we took.

I have a Canon PowerShot A610 (several years old) and sometimes have access to a Sony α350 (with macro and zoom lenses); if my sister lets me.
I sometimes also use my mother's office camera; a Nikon D40X.

 

You could probably pick up a mark I pretty cheap. To be honest I have never looked at one of my pictures thinking "I wish I had 24 megapixels" or whatever the new one is, although I did say "I wish I had full frame" back when I was using a 400d (FF makes a huge difference).

I had A1 prints and some larger, all came out exceedingly good, mind you I did use Genuine Fractals for upsizing the large ones.

Meh, decent nuff for meh. Need a tele but canon don't have any good ones yet. Oh, saving up for a decent flash too. I know that this camera isn't even closer to "pro" but I see no reason to pay 2.5-3k for even EOS 5D Mark II. Sure some secs are better but unless you wanna print huge images, for regular needs this camera paired with better than stock lens, is all I really need. Best set imo for price per performance. I love it.
