Let's put it this way: so far I was always able to clean up the mess I created with a "bad" theme. It's like all the other fields on your PC: you need some patience, read a few articles, and then just start doing it yourself and learn from your mistakes... ;)

p.s.: In case you "just" mean the uxtheme-patch, that's pretty straight forward and if you use the correct one, doesn't cause any instability.

Make sure you back the original files up first. Also it helps to be comfortable with the command line. I messed something up my first try and had to restore like 3 dll's through the command line before I could launch explorer.exe

@hallryu: Thanks! Unfortunately Cybermancer is correct and this does become addictive...

I used to monkey around with my desktop a hell of a lot with XP, I haven't bothered with Vista for some reason. I pwned my system several times (in XP) mucking around like that! I suppose I'm getting old, I tend not to tinker to much now! I like my system working!

Check www.deviantart.com for some themes under 'customization'
    Also, check www.customize.org

There are so many other places but those should get you started. Be careful, try not to break anything.

Now there's a wise man. For some reason I can't make myself listen to the "if it's not broken don't try and fix it" mentality. Then again, if it weren't for my curiosity/stupidity, I'd probably never learn anything.

    EDIT:
For anyone who was wondering about all that crap on the left side of that last screen I posted, it's Rainmeter. The skin is called HUD Vision and it's extremely over-used but that doesn't really bother me.

Anyone got any good sources for high-resolution wallpapers? Apart from interfacelift and deviantart.
