Argh, i really hope that this isn't the start of a new trend... PLEASE let the aib's continue to use standard 8x pcie connectors...

Looks like the rumors for 4090 750W could be true. They gonna get killed in efficiency next gen.

Efficiency is basically frames per watt, right? For all we know they might be more efficient, but these numbers are ridiculous. It's 55 eurocents per kilowatt hour for new contracts in Germany right now, this cannot continue.

To be fair though, the big nvidia chips can be undervolted a whole lot, and retain most of their performance. Using half the watt at like 90% of the performance.

Better use DLSS Performance + Frame capping to reduce power usage :D

this will be the headline for those who know.
for the mass market, it's just another unattainable halo product and for the well-heeled (but inexperienced) folks who only want "the best" it will be a shocking realization and a system rebuild (new PSU, odds are new case {better airflow}) and they still have a chance of a cpu bottleneck that may cost even more money.

the 3090ti may bench as well, close to, or better than RDNA 3 but that power envelope, cost, and size will limit sales.

I don't know about you guys, but where I live summers are hot as frack and gaming became for me a VERY literal sweaty business on the 3080Ti and that was like 350-370W. I can't imagine how to deal with this potential monster or even worse the 4xxx series rumors, if it all means to deal with even more heat.

Undervolting/power limiting is in my opinion a "bad" fix for the user, since the whole point of these cards is to squeeze the extra performance (and of course the extra price) out of every extra W... it should be the other way around, have them at stock at a stable lower voltage/power limit and give the OPTION for overclocking for those who have the means and ambient temps. But of course if they do that, it will look bad in benchmarks and if rumors of RDNA3 are true, they will have a lot of that anyway.

That´s just the added realism, only possible with high end cards...

If i had the choice between getting a 3090 and a 3090Ti i would still pick the 3090.

My 3090 is downclocked and running in a balanced mode so no max performance settings.

It still pumps out 240 fps on a 32" 240hz 1440p monitor while using less than 300w.

Of course that is based off individual games. Some only hit 120 fps but most can run at 240.

This also keeps the gfx card cool at around just 60C up to maybe 65C when the weather gets hotter.

liquid cooled gpu will fix that, air cooled gpu is the main culprit in room heating, it's the component with the higher watts after all
going from aio cpu and air cooled gpu to complete custom loop I went from 38°C in a living room in winter to being cold playing for 8hrs straight with 700w@psu with my 12900k and 3090
once you liquid cool your gpu and cpu the only air that will exhaust your case is the one of your liquid so 35-45° with 25°C ambient air temp
well that's with 3 radiators 2x55mm + 1x30mm in a lian li dynamix xl so it's not cheap but it works 100%
adding the vrm to the cpu added +2°C to my liquid temp and the gpu roughly the same..maybe 3°C but still
the heat benefit from liquid cooling the gpu is much more than what you gain with a cpu block, pretty much everything on my rtx is now 20-30°C less and all it cost me was 2-3°C of liquid temp

This is not how physics work at all .... In a span of say 1 hour the same amount of energy you put out with an air cooler will be the same with a water cooler assuming they run on the same MHz same voltages 100% identical the heat output will be 100% identical. It does not matter if it is water or air energy transfer is the same (heat =energy) what changes is that water coolers have bigger thermal capacity and they circulate the water close to the heat source Spreading the heat all along the water but make no mistake if the air cooler dumps in the room 10 joules of energy/heat the water coolers will dump also 10 joules . If you overclocked extra because a water cooler loop indeed has a lot more thermal capacity and the radiators on it provides a bigger more effective area to dump the heat ... Then you dump out MORE heat ! The reason it is cooler is because you spread the heatload on a much bigger surface !

Law of conservation of energy can not be broken !

Hilbert you punish me and yet again another comment with someone swearing two people in two days but you punish me for making up a swear word? I have been a member since 2003 and sign up finally years ago. I notice you treat me worse than others here in the past. So I know you will erase this or ban me but now I can finally say GOFUCKYOURSELF Hilbert. You should be a Democrat in America they will love you man. What a Bullshit, we should not buy ANY of those cards at all, PERIOD. MAKE A STAND

What we need is something else, not +450w of Unobtanium and electricity bills we cant pay anymore.

Nvidia and AMD are caught off guard, placing such products in todays world is a crime of it's own.

even though folks get heated here (me too), we should try to keep a collegial temperament - just like work.

dude - you not only doubled down on swearing and personal attacks, you got weirdly political.

so much easier to double down on power usage to increase performance then actual make hardware that is faster with less or equal power usage.

It is a horrible trend and why i am losing intrested in even build a new pc

makes the MCM rumours more plausible, 2x the gpu means 2x the power! same efficiency
