Isn't it funny how a game requires a gpu less than a month old? Amazing how they knew of this technology months ago when developing this. It would seem only thanks to dlss 3, the 4080 can get such decent frames. For the recommended performance at 1080p and 60fps, you'll want a Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 with DLSS 2, 16GB memory and an Intel i7-9700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU. For the "ultra" performance at 2160p and 60fps, you'll want a Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 with DLSS 3, 32GB memory and an Intel i7-12700K or AMD Ryzen 9 5900. https://www.eurogamer.net/nvidias-rtx-enhanced-portal-launches-next-week-and-heres-how-it-looks
Ridiculous for such a game. Portal was/is a great game, I played some user made levels a few months back. They could have done HL or HL2 remake with RTX and it would be awesome, but Portal, nah.
Something about being able to downgrade it to dx8 to get the most out of how they're using ray tracing. Apparently once you introduce shaders, which most games have now, ray tracing is more difficult to implement. Dx8 and lower don't have that issue. And while I know it's a "full implementation" of ray tracing, my mind can't get off the dx8 thing when I read those requirements.
I have more interest about this with the first game than 2. I like playing the first game in a series. On a similar note I'd like to replay Borderlands 1, but I only see all the other games on-sale or for free. I have BL2, Prequel, and I think 3, but I really just want the first game.
Gonna play it in 4k anyways. Oh, and I am sure drivers will drop for it as well, so these stats are just here say atm. 3080 4k 120fps with the Drivers.
Serotonin: Is Lloyd Braun crazy thinking drivers can magically create such an improvement? Kramer: Lloyd Braun is not crazy!!! He just likes to stay positive, c'mon Lloyd, let's go get jerry that gum.
I think most of the PCs out there will be able to at most look at a bunch of slides. 24gb of Vram seems to be strictly necessary to play this in 4K.
Damm I own the two poral games, never finished them. Was planning on giving this release a try. Looks just as bad as quake release if you turned up the settings.Maybe I try on a RTX 3070Ti 1080p DLSS ultra performance
I don't think these benchmarks tested DLSS 3. That should further improve performance for the 4000 series. The recommended hardware from valve for 4k max is a 4080.
Is this a fully ray-traced game? Or hybrid? And do you guys think this is a real performance of AMD gpus when the game is heavily ray-traced, or just a lack of optimisation? Looks like I'm skipping this one... wait... no, I already played it 15 years ago.
It's full bore path tracing like Quake 2 RTX. Sooo... both. This type of RT isn't very well optimized just generally speaking. What is considered to be the way to go for an optimized approach is to use RT and raster in hybrid.
If I had to guess it was probably less work for P1 than P2. P1 is a fairly short game with less graphical complexity than its sequel seems to me.
Ground up remake of HL1 and/or HL2 with Source 2 + RT would be awesome. There are a lot of shooters from that era I'd love to see get that treatment (Riddick Escape from Butcher Bay + DOOM 3). Thinking on it DOOM 3 may already have an RT mod of some sort, will have to check.
