Ok i got it installed and right now i get 40 idle and 55 load.

It helped my load temps alot but isn't the idle a tad high for the nv5?

omfg why are u angry? Currently i'm struggling with my stock heatsink fan of my MSI 6800GT, it's currently....*checks*..58 degrees on internet explorer and gets to around 69 degrees after games, YOU SEE HOW LUCKY U ARE???

But i'm getting an NV-5 on Tuesday or Wednesday, which i HOPE will fix the problem :)

Those temps you're getting are excellent.
And anyone saying that they're getting 30C are simply lying.

Did it make the card more silent? I'm thinking of gettin' one for my 6800GT because it's too noisy with the 2 fans it has on it now...

PS: those temps don't sound abnormal...

I thought before I read this thread that you were gonna say like 60/80 but your upset with 40/55.... Im getting 54/74 now, Im definetly picking up one of these fans when I do my upgrades. Currently my upgrade list is....
    *Audigy 2 zs
*Good side window 80mm case fan
    *Nv5

So what am I looking at $120 here?

Having a card that overclocks well is just luck of the draw, every card will give you different results...

    WOW 30 ºC idle?

My room is at 34ºC today... my case is at 38 ºC (full load), with 3 fans + 12 cm fan on the PSU... My Athlon XP 2600+ OC is at 58ºC (AS5) (VERY heavy load... it´s compressing some Divx movies for over 4 hours)

My 6800 OC idles at 57ºC and under load reaches 72 ºC... Not bad for such a high room temperature...

I am sure that with some AS5 on the core of my 6800, it will decrease to about 52 / 65 at the same rt.

Yep, the NV5 is a lot quieter than the cooling on (y)our sparkle. However, I tried to mount an NV5 on mine saturday, and it doesn't seem to fit.
After mounting the first time, temps were way too high, remounted with AS5 without getting better results. Looking at the AS5 on the cpu and the NV5, i saw that they barely made contact, while contact with the ramchips is ok. Followed mounting instructions first 2 times, broke off mounting screw third time while trying to get it thighter. Trying to get my hands on an VF700 now...

Apart from the noise it makes, the stock heatsink is just no good. Looks fancy, but it's just a flat, unfinished aluminium plate, with some thermal tape for the rams. I connected the fans to my fancontroller, and run them on 5v now (+1°c idle)
Clocks on the card are quite good now (420/1150) but I'm hoping to get a little higher, a lot cooler, and quieter with the zalman sink.

    Grtz,

    Wacko
