im agree with you... thats all
6800ULTRA and GT have all pipes(16) but 6800 and 6800le/nu have some masked by hardware or software and its possible unblock them

To those who unlocked it, is it safe to do it with the stock cooling? im asking about an evga 6800 too so i guess this question fits into this topic. Thanks

Unlocking the masked pipes/shaders is a softmod. Temperatures dont change/the videocard does'nt get any hotter. Yes its safe with stock cooling. And speaking of that, the 6800 stock cooling is the same as the 6800 GT stock cooling.

    Think about it:
In core there are some unused things, and they don´t use energy or don´t make any heat.
You make them working, off course they starts to use energy and make heat.

My heat went up about 5C, but that is not much... (And I chanced to NV5 silencer..)

not all 6800/le/nu can be softmoded to unlock all pipes, some owners only got 12/6 or 16/5 ...

Trying to unlock the additional units is pretty safe (I got 16/5 on my 6800le). If they don't work (screwed up picture in games/benches) you can always lock them back, or if (and I don't even know if this is possible) your 2d picture is so bad you cannot see your desktop, you can boot in safe mode and uninstall riva tuner and TADA! I say go for it. You've got nothing to lose and some pipes to gain

Anyone know which one's more successful, the LE or nu (does the nu mean regular?)? And all 6800nu's have locked pipes right (no matter 256MB GDDR3 or the 128MB DDR1's)? I'm thinking it'd be a better deal to get a 6800nu than an LE because of the 4 extra pixel pipes and the 2 extra shaders...

thanks kamijaza and aion for the replies. kool moo yes the nu is the regular 6800. Bear in mind that the unlocking posibilities depend on the core that you get, i think the new nv41 is the one that cant be unlocked, while nv40 is the one that has the masked pipes. So its a matter of luck more than before.

Is there any way to tell what core it has? Maybe which brands manufacture cards with that core or are they all just random? I would think that the same product of the same brand would all have the same cores right? If anyone knows which cards have the nv40 cores could you list them?
