Was gonna pick up one of these big guys. Just curious if I really need 640mb of graphics memory. The 320mb version is only 279 and the 640 is 356.

since you run 22 inch...ie 1650x1050 (watever it is)

    I suggest the 640.

Depends on the games you intend to play, current games show no difference in performance between the two, but newer games coming down the pike will need the additional memory such as Crysis and Bioshock..It also depends on how long you intend to keep your card, if its a temporary stop gap then grab the 320Mb, but if its a long term purchase spend a little more and go with the 640Mb ....

Most games to come will need 512mb+ of video memory. So I suggest the 640. I mean, even games from last generation like Doom 3 need 512mb for all those huge textures. Just make sure you get one with a fast clock. If not, it'll be like being really clever, but slow.

It depends on the games you play, and will be playing. Stalker chugs up over 540MB of video memory at 1680x1050 with full dynamic lighting for instance. Older games are fine on 320, until you enable the high levels of AA that the 8800s are so famous for being able to do. And if you play with Vsync on, it can chug up even more for the framebuffer. But if you plan on upgrading to the 9000 series when they come out, I'd suggest going with the 320 to save money. If not, go for the 640, it's worth the price difference at your resolution.

Been reading up on the 9 series. I may just drop in an XFX 8600 gts to hold me down till the new series is out then ebay it or something. Hell it will still be 100% better than the integrated.

Hah I remember saying the exact same thing several months ago in another thread to someone else regarding the 640 vs 320 debacle...and so many disagreed with me, flaming, telling me I'm stupid becuase the gts harboring 640mb is like a P4 with 4gigs of RAM or a 7600gs with 512mb RAM....so I did make the right choice

indeed. however take notice that the games that can run on that reso with a 8600GT are hard to find. excpect low to medium gfx on that resolution
