So i was thinking if i got a new 9800+ could i still have my old 8600 in my box and just make it a physX card or am I totally misreading this physX thing.

edit. hell even a 260, the way it is doing.

All 8 Series GPUs are CUDA Supported so yes it would support physx

the only problem is i dont think SLI supports mix and match like crossfire

you're probably right. don't think it'd work. As you said... could be wrong... but who knows.

doubt it works but if it were dedicated as a physx card it wouldn't be set as SLI.
Could be interesting... maybe the future will hold that possibility with nivida drvers.

If you don't set it up for SLI, just connect it, I suppose it may be able to in a future, OFFICIAL driver release... An 8600GT dedicated to PhysX would still beat an actual PhysX card (atleast, so I can imagine).

And if support for it won't come with official PhysX enabled Nvidia drivers, it can probably be modded somehow.
I wouldn't exactly throw the idea in the bin just yet.

Its been speculated that in the future you will be able to still use an older CUDA based card as a dedicated PhysX card, even in an SLi system.

in Single and SLi modes, the cards in question would show up as one card, and the 2nd (or 3rd as PhysX) card would show up as a PhysX card only.

Thats future speculation though, its not official.

So this raises an interesting point, could you then have a 4870 with a old nvidia runnin psysX. Mind you they would both be in the pc but not connected. This could get quite intresting mixing the old with the new.

kinda think that might be even LESS likely to work... seeing as you'd need both NVidia's and ATI's display drivers installed.... which i don't think ever worked out well in the past.

This is my plan after I decided to buy a 4870 and Nvidia's PhysX driver leaked. :)
I will use my old 8800GTS in the 4x slot and my new 4870 in the 16x slot and everything will be fine. (fast graphic with PhysX, cuda, Havok...) :3eyes:

I hope this is true. If and when I get my 9800GTX from the girlfriend I'll keep my 8600GT to use as a Physx card.

Can you still use it if you have one card?
