IMHO, plasma technology was "already dead on arrival" - there are numerous problems concerning low resolution screens, rapidly diminishing brightness, very small color gamut that needs dithering in order to simulate true color images (= grainy picture), burn in effects, and generally short life of an extremely expensive panel.
Display producing companies should be focusing on LCDs with LED and laser backlighting, SED and OLED. Plasma and LCDs with ordinary backlights should be phased out ASAP.
