That is the intro cinematic, which is pre-rendered CGI; it was confirmed by a person from Guerilla Games.

Every other cutscene is real-time/in-game. It's not playing a video of the disk, it's being rendered in real-time.

The videos above are all in-game, taken from the final review build of Killzone 2.

As for gameplay, OPM UK has said that the gameplay matches the graphics:

Also, some early reviews have been posted:

    OPM 5/5
    OPM UK 9/10
    OPM Spain 9.5/10
    OPM Australia 10/10
    OPM Netherlands 91/100
    MEGamers.com 9.9/10
    Gameplay Magazine (Croatia) 10/10
    576 KByte (Hungary) 9.7/10
    PSX Extreme (Poland) 9.5/10
    Level (Sweden) 8/10
    Hobby Consolas (Spain) 9.4/10
    IGN 9.4/10
    IGN AU 9.0/10
    Eurogamer 9/10
    Gameplayer 9.5/10

At the moment, it seems like Killzone 2 is going to be much better than Killzone 1.

.... from the video's i watched that you linked... it didn't seem THAT "forceful and empowering". "You don't finish levels, you survive them"? Kinda find that to be an odd statement considering my previously mentioned fact that the guns seem to have zero recoil. if you actually had to compensate your aim as you were firing... i could see it being more difficult, but an entire clip without your crosshairs moving away from your target's head from like 60' away.... please.

And if i remember correctly, a LOT of games get pretty high ratings, but turn out to be quite bad in the eyes of the actual gamers. take UT3 for instance.

I love the way some "hardcore pc gamers" can turn envy and jealousy into Anti-console hatred. Just because it`s never gonna be ported to the pc, doesn`t make KZ2 an instant failure. As for comparing the gfx to crysis , i think the KZ2 has some stunning visual techniques, too. PS3 is around 2 years old,and in comparison i`m pretty sure Crysis would struggle on hardware that was available in 2007

That video is definitely not using the actual game engine. It's a prerendered hype instigator!

I suppose PC games developers have never been guilty of using pre-rendered intros ?

I have some stupid friends arguing that xbox 360 and ps3 have better graphics than a pc.lol. I do not blame them because they never play on pc neither they have seen the graphics on pc. I personally believe that the pc will continue to have the best possible graphics as compared to any consoles. Cheers pc gamers.

    Crysis came out in 2007.

The thread is about PC vs Killzone 2 graphics. And regardless to who owns what console and who doesn't, the 256megs of ram on the PS3 is a huge bottleneck.

Tbh I played the first one and it was pretty terrible at the time. I think the over-all reaction for the game was pretty terrible. I'm sure some people liked it, and that's fine. But if you expect people to get all excited over a game being released by a developer who's initial attempt was mediocre at best, you're going to be let down.

if it were ddr2 ram then sure. the amount is not a bottlenck, the bandwidth and latency would be. Even most guru's computers probably have more bottlenecks than consoles do simply due to chosen hardware, My CPU bottlnecks my GPU and even my ram is a bottleneck to CPU to some extent for example.

Please everyone, Killzone 2 is a graphic achivement for consoles, and I ask you, once again, to accept it.

its pure opinion. All that matters is how fun it is.
my opinion of graphic achievment for a console would be MSG4/Fallout3 or FC 2...at least they have more color variations than KZ2.
the fast moving action and explosions overshadow its drab environment full of clone soldiers. But that wouldnt keep me from getting it or not, if its fun then i'm in.

How is the amount not a bottleneck? It's the biggest bottleneck their is when dealing with console development. Three things go into your memory

    1. Assets
    2. Heap
    3. Code

Your assets are going to take up about 80% of your memory budget. That means you have ~400 megs of ram on the PS3 for textures, level geometry, sounds, sprites, animations.. etc. It can be the fastest ram in the world, it isn't going to make any of these things any smaller. You load up the level, you load these things into memory, they stay in memory till the next load.

A better argument would be that the devs should utilize texture streaming from the disk. In which case the quality of the textures would need to be even lower due to the fact that the PS3's blu-ray disk can only read at 72mbit/s.
