Trump doesn't know how to make money. Trump knows how to borrow money, start a company, then have that company file bankruptcy while refusing to pay employees and pocketing the money from the loans he took out. That's why no bank in the US will loan him money. He's a fraud. Out of 6 companies owned by Trump, 5 filed bankruptcy. One of those companies was a casino.... If you own a casino and have to file bankruptcy, you are completely clueless about making money.

For the record, Trump's "tax reform" is very similar to what Reagan tried in the 80's. It's commonly referred to as "trickle down economics". It didn't work in the 80's and actually damaged the economy. It took 8 rounds of tax increases for the rich to "fix" things. Tariffs have also, historically speaking, been damaging to the US economy. You know what they say about doing the same thing repeatedly, expecting different results....right?

I'd say you shouldn't talk too much about economy if you don't know what you're talking about.
As great your common sense looks, in practice never worked that way.
Taxes serve many purposes from fuelling a country economy, to try and balance it's commercial balance.
Some taxes aren't meant to finance a country, but to steer people away from those products.
And the truth is, if you already have a low end component because you can't afford a high end one, you'll probably hold even more on buying a new one with more taxes making them expensive.

It's common sense that if you produce a good inland, you don't want people to buy from outside just because it's cheaper. You tax the crap out of the imports so the internal goods "look" more affordable in comparison.

This trump lover is constantly making posts like these:rolleyes:

Just give it up dude, always trying to start a flame war.

The only thing that achieves is reducing the value of the dollar.

I don't know, some of the Obama fans were pretty kooky...but these Trump Troopers act like you kicked their dog....even though they are clearly cat lovers as they 'grab the pursie' of unsuspecting strangers. Back on topic. I don't know what to make of reports of layoffs based on this. Seems a bit early for such a policy to have an impact. Employers will use any gambit to cut costs including blaming tariffs for cutting jobs and/or benefits and wages. Like gasoline prices, the reaction is swift the recovery, slower.

I think we can revisit this thread in two months when prices remain unaffected.

There's is only one mechanism: either they are going to collect a tariff increasing costs or they are not. Time is irrelevant. At the end of the day, all costs are passed on to the buyer, you.

Still, I have a difficult time believing that authorities would do nothing while prices rose 25%, especially being so close to the mid-term elections.

That's the part where time will tell. We don't really know the details. So we're left with guessing the impacts of actual tariffs. There seems to be two governments in DC. President Tang at the Podium, and the relatively saner folks in the Congress.

You should know exactly how to take me. I'm fiscally conservative and relatively liberal socially, meaning I don't care as long as you keep it out of my face. What I don't get is why it is the *snowflakes on the right who seem so offended all the time pushing their social politics every chance they get. Why are you folks all so angry all the time? You've got both Houses of Congress, the White House, the majority of states Legislatures and Governors...yet the daily nonstop complaints blaming every perceived slight in their life as caused by the 'ebil wibberals'. As far as Trump, he's a dirt bag and you know this. But he's your dirt bag. And of course nobody is going to easily admit they voted for a dirt bag. ;) Mistakes happen. I voted once for Blister Billy Clinton, he was dirt bag too. Trump however is a dangerous dirt bag to our democracy by attacking our institutions that keep us safe. By attacking the free press as the ENEMY of Americans. What did you think when you saw the POTUS standing in front of high school students red faced, spittle flying, lying and raging at the media? WTF is that? I cannot respect you while you support a man who clearly does not have the best interests of the US as first. Of course my perspective is also colored by being a retired vet and you know that too.
So yeah, you know exactly how to take me. I think you'd feel better if you could actually make an argument defending Trump's actions. And no, touting the continuation of Obama's recovery from the Bush disaster doesn't count.
Here's a prediction you won't like but you're probably smart enough to figure out if true: You know all those tax and bank fraud charges there's a pile of paper on for Gates, Manafort and Cohen...who is another big player on the same Ferris Wheel? That's right. Donald Trump. Now you know why he wouldn't release his taxes. Of course, Mueller is ahead of all this. Regardless of what happens to Trump politically or the Russian connections (which also play into Trump's finance crimes) Trump is eventually going to prison. This isn't some wacky conspiracy, it's simply based on who he has dealt with over a long period of time. So again, you can see exactly where I come from. I have sound logical and factual reason for my dislike of Trump irrespective of his policies or lack thereof.

So I perused this entire thread and I've yet to see what the positive benefit of Trade Wars is to the American plebe. All I read is people talking about how it will hurt a bit and we should just accept that and how people shouldn't use their debit card to buy gum and this will teach them that lesson (…?). Meanwhile, jobs are being lost. I guess those people should just accept the "black eye" for America. Take one for the team!

Are you folks willing to take one for the team or only when it's some random American stranger?

-----On a side note, this has actually been one of the more respectful "political" discussions I've seen in a good year or two. Almost like it was when we disagreed and yet compromised (or simply moved on) for the good of all. Those were the days...

You could actually demonstrate you know what that term means by offering even a shred of intelligent rebuttal. Just one sentence...yet you failed, and burst into tears. Like I said "I think you'd feel better if you could actually make an argument defending Trump's actions" or any intelligent reply at all. All you did was post yet another content-less insult. Apparently, since you cannot even manage a single single to defend your Gilded God Trump, that would make you the Dunning-Kruger candidate. I sure hope you're not passing this lack of maturing and intellectual curiosity to your spawn. We really don't need another generation like you.

Trump is an out right idiot but I can see myself doing many of the things he is doing right now when I'm drunk. I like him when I'm drunk.

Edit: I'm drunk. See me in the morning and i'll be cursing him.

What do you think the odds are, being Trump has associated with the same criminal element Gates, Manafort and Cohen for decades, that he's engaged in the same fraud? I'd say 100%. You probably do too. ;)
Seriously I don't get how you can admire a man who brags about sexually abusing women because he's famous, pays off his affairs while he's cheating on his wife who just had a baby... Sex with pron stars, ripping folks off. I mean it is obvious his unfit to hold the office and represent us. How can you explain this to your kids? How do you explain the POTUS raging on the podium in front of TEENAGERS raging and claiming the free press is the ENEMY of Americans. How can YOU defend that. How would YOU explain Trump to your Grandfather?
"I'm just kicked back watching/reading what you type."
Just another version of 'Dunning-Kruger'...I predict a repeat. But you may surprise me by admitting you now believe you made a mistake. You'd gain back some measure of self-respect.
