    Hey guys, and girls.

Sorry if this has been asked and answered before, but I have a major problem with GTA V.

I am unable to maintain 60 fps during story mode.
Specs are under my user name, they are not the best, I know.
    OS: Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

    Things I tried so far:

--When selecting the games graphic suggestions, I'm not getting 60fps, never.
Around 50 is max, with dips, even below 25, mostly when driving.

--When selecting NV's graphic suggestions, again no 60 fps, never.
The game even tells me I'm going over my vram limit.

--Setting everything to low, even my resolution, once again, not able to
    maintain 60 fps.

--I am using vsync on in NVCP, off in-game.

--The only time I had constant 60fps is during the prologue, after that, never.

--I'm using the latest GPU driver from Nvidia.

--I tried to close background programs, there are four instances of R* Social
Club running when playing. Closing them has no effect, as they open up again immediatly.

Some will say, time to upgrade, I'm fine with that.
Just to say, I'm playing DOOM(2016) on high settings @ 70-80fps.
Offcourse, the open world of GTA will be harder to render.

Still confused, no matter what setting, I'm just not able to get 60fps.

Can you think of anything that might help?
    Thanks in advance.

Going from a i5 3570K to a i7 6700K boosted my FPS significantly (esp minimum fps) in that particular game. Like you said, its not comparable to Doom which is easier on the CPU in particular.

My guess is your almost 10 year old CPU holding you back.

    Thanks for you answer.
I'm beginning to think that indeed my CPU is to blame.

I just can't get my head around that even with everything on low, i'm not getting the fps I thought I would get...

yes my thoughts too, his quad core is of old architecture, doesn't agree with recent games, the cpu is holding u back so much, my guess get an i5 4th generation and u ll be good to go with many recent games, the 960 is a good card and can play gta 5 1080p high at 60 fps easily.
for gta set the following in nv control panel:
    1-max prerendered frames to 3
    2-prefer maximum performance
    2-threaded optimization to on
    3-texture filtering optimization on
    4-vsync to adaptive.

Man, I don't know how, but with these settings, everything is looking ok.
Sure it still dips, but I'm getting a whole lot more fps then the desired 60.
When driving, that's when the lowest numbers appear, around 45.

When browsing the net, I'm reading lots of reports of fps dipping, so I'm pretty happy right now.
Sure, it's not the best solution, butt it will work, pending a hardware upgrade.

I used to measure my fps using fraps, now I'm using the performance monitor that came with the MSI gaming app, maybe ditching fraps helped too.

Definitely the CPU is the main culprit. When I upgraded from q6600 @3ghz to my 2500k @4.5ghz, the performance boost across the board was massive.

If you decide to upgrade but want something not too expensive, opt for a 6600K. They're great for gaming and not too expensive. You exchange all but your GFX card tbh.

Upgrading will be something for the future, not right now.
    Thanks for the help guys.
