Not exactly blowing ATI away like some may think. I am not upgrading but I enjoy watching the Video Card Market go around and around.

Why to laugh, i think is a real fast card, i just want to see if the r770 from ati is mature enough to deploy better performance/watt.
Asking for crysis smooth fps at 2560x1600 with AA and everything maxed it's too simplistic, you cannot ask new hardware just because it's new to run the more demanding 3d engine at full detail.
They are spending millions of dollars and need to make the money back, i don't care about the wow effect if you need to dissipate 350 watts on a huge chip, pc's needs solutions not pieces of brag right out loud =P

Same here, I bought a 3870 X2, and I'm going to sit on it for a while. Now I'm going to watch ATi & nVidia throw punches for a while and get whatever comes out on top when the dust settles. I imagine by the time I get around to upgrading again, I'll be looking at something like an HD 5870 X4.

Why the hell would you do that? Just get a single 4870.

Adding a 3870X2 to the 3870 he already has would put him in the 3-way CrossfireX sweet spot, that's why :p

In that case, you may, in fact, be better off with a 4870.

True, but the rumored cost (and some pre-orders I've seen on a Dutch site ) is 2x the cost of 3870x2.

    lol

Let's just wait a bit more. But honestly, if the price doesn't come down and those numbers are true, Nvidia is seriously losing this round.

That GTX280 preorder was 590 euros and 3870x2 is 280 euros. Now, compare em again...

You want the best, you pay for the best. Prices would be better if there was actually some competition for the card, but as it is...

How exactly would they be "losing this round"? Have they been "losing" with their price premiums in the high end for the past 2 years? Not really.

I couldn't disagree more with "you want the best, you pay for the best". See, we're talking about price/performance here. If someone is willing to pay 600 euros for a card that performs slightly better than a 300 euro card ( and we haven't even seen how it fares against hd 4000 series ) that person must be nuts or seriously loaded.

As for the losing the round, I meant in terms of price / performance. I have been switching sides according to the offers keeping the price / perf ratio in mind. 8800 gt was / is an excellent card. However, if that 4850 price of 160 euros preorder is true, and the card performs similarly or better than a 250 euro 9800gtx, IMHO it's an absolute steal.

PS. That profile of mine is not updated, the last 7 months I've been using an 8800gt. 1,5 year before that I had an x1900xt. Got to do it now then ;)
