I needing to suggest a configuration for a pc for video edition in High Definition for a public university, but it can not be too expensive and not Mac.
So I was thinking in this:
    Core 2 Quad E6600
4GB DDR2 (should it be a xtreme like corsair or just a value set)
Something like two or tree 250GB HD's sata II
GeForce 8600 GT (it won't do any 3d modeling, or almost won't, so I thought that this would be a good choice)
A nice motherboard, but nothing too expensive, like one ASUS with an intel chipset...
Would it need a nice soundboard? Because I think no one there would use recording or something more complex besides hear music.
So, what do you think, any one could please help me??? I would appreciate a lot.
    Thanks

For editing I would suggest the following:
Q6600 (that's the quad core and yes there are some editing softwares that utilize all four cores that will dramatically drop you editing time)

4gb of some quality low latency DDR2 800: Corsiar, OCZ, G.Skill (you do not need the super fast editions since you don't plan on overclocking and won't see the difference in time)

Since you won't do much if any 3D Rendering the 8600GT will be fine but stepping up to the 8800GTS with 320mb for a small price might pay off later.

The motherboard will depend on what you want for features. Dual Ethernet, Wifi, etc. Do go with a Name like Asus or Gigabyte though and the P35 chipset.

Another thing you should consider is what many don't...a quality Power Supply. Get something with at least 500watts and from a name like Enermax, Forton, and if you can afford it, the best of the best, Power PC & Cooling.

As for Hard drive space you can get a 500gb drive for relatively cheap these days or 2 and not have to worry about space for a good while.

On the Soundcard issue you can go with the Creative Sound Blaster Xi-Fi Platinum with the external input add on package so you can connect from the font and be very happy. Should have everything you need to do whatever audio project you have in mind. From here you go to true professional setups and the price jumps very noticably. Oh comes with a remote too:D

for some reason i didn't notice the Quad. Maybe the E6600 threw me off. there is no such thing as a quad core E6600. the E series are the dual cores and the Q's are the Quads. Either way he knows what i mean i hope.
