So, do all of the retail versions come without a VRM heat sink or are there some that have it?

Well this kills my choice for going to Palit for a GTX 460.

If they don't explain this issue better, or fix it, then I think their products should be banned for being reviewed. A company that pulls this kind of stuff doesn't need consumer income.

The thread got closed soon as I got done reading it and tried to reply, but I was gonna make a joke that Palit stuck its attack dogs (BMR) on Guru3D for his announcement of this.

I am still awaiting resonse on my 2nd inquiry at Palit from yesterday.

I've just send out a reminder that we really need some answers as to why the press samples seem to be different than the retail Sonic platinum editions in e-tail.

Well that's what Palit needs to explain then, why two SKUs with one being inferior. I mean we reviewed the Sonic Platinum edition, one might hope thet when he spends 229 USD he will get the very same stuff as we show in the review.

I'm still hoping this is a common mistake or that they did not communicate properly that there would be two SKUs available.

But currently I am lucky to receive even one reply per 24 hrs from Palit as it seems ...

Oh dear, I've never had a Palit product but they are now on my 'avoid' list.

No, but it's been covering the top of the news for over 24 hours now. It is a news story that now gets outdated by other news. The point was made. Much like news on the BP oil spill ... time moves on and other news kicks in.

The post is still live on the actual news page though:

Once new info comes in it will go higher up in news again.

another interesting thing about the palit is that it has non reference heatsink mounting holes, (Square no rectangular like all other 460s), which is probably a good thing in this case. It apparently means that more aftermarket heatsinks will be compatible with it.

Okay guys I have an update. Just got of the phone with Palit.

It seems the sample we received was an engineering sample and that the final e-tail samples indeed ships without the VRM heatsink.

Several things are being done now:
    • Next week we'll receive the final sample and look into the heat / noise level tests again.
    • I was very clear about this request: Palit will make a statement likely early next week on what exactly happened and what went wrong.
    • A new BIOS is to be released for the Sonic Platinum editions cards that (hopefully) will help out with heat and noise levels
So they acknowledge that we received an early sample that differs from the final product. Hopefully the new BIOS will help out with the noise levels and as soon as it arrives we'll retest the actual final product on heat and noise levels.

But surely a new bios might help the noise levels but will not ix the fact that the VRM's are still going produce silly amounts of heat.

i wonder how a new bios will help out the heat AND noise level exept they lower the takt and voltage... x_X
Btw, could you please add this to the news?

Someone else who got the Palit card who made a complaint has just recieved this:

This is the BIOS he was sent:

I don't have my card any more so can't test it.
