Your Palit GeForce GTX 460 Sonic could have issues The reviews on thePalit GeForce GTX 460 Sonic Platinum edition have been extremely positive in most reviews. Great performance good cooling and an... More...
i just got mine less then 5minutes ago..... they spose have one of those do hickys?i do not have one them sons of bitches, they are soooo forgetfull them guys. i guess you might have to forgot to add the "void if removed warrenty" sticker on the heatsink screw also.
Maybe Palit sent enhanced GTX 460 review samples. If you check the pics of the MSI cyclone it also does not have VRM heatsinks. I do not understand the design, but is there any reason why the Palit would need the VRM heatsink and the MSI Cyclone not need them. Palits product page pics do not show the VRM heatsinks. http://www.palit.biz/main/vgapro.php?id=1341
If it were me I'd just yank a decently sized heatsink from some old mobo and slap it on there. Screw waiting on RMAs. I wonder how Palit will handle the negative publicity if they were just sending out enhanced test samples...
Problem with that is if the card fails, they might say that air flow on the big heatsink was impeded by the home made heatsink, it wasnt making a good contact so impeded VRM cooling or that the heatsink wasnt suitable. Its cool for hardware hackers but Joe public shouldnt do it imo.
Well in that event you take off the heatsink and say "What heatsink? You guys forgot to put it on!" Hopefully you manage to figure out a way to affix it without making any attachment points notable
I'd like to swing it around in the newegg product viewer to see if the non-overclocked models are supposed to have these as well, pity they still only have 3D-mockups.
I was the one that pointed out the missing heatsink, and i've run furmark, seems stable, but gets VERY hot, the fan spins up to the 80%+ region and makes the card excruciatingly loud. Now weather Palit decided they don't need the VRM cooling after they had sent out the review samples I don't know. What I do know is that my retail one is anything but silent, and runs rather toasty. I've also heard from a few other people on other forums that the non-oc'd Palit cards seem to not have the VRM heatsink, and are missing heatpipes from the GPU block, which again isn't what's shown on review sites elsewhere. http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=16946418&postcount=221 http://hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1035947280&postcount=30 I can't confirm that those allegations are true though as i've not seen the cards.
