Hi all, I have ASUS P5GD1-VM with ICH6 south bridge. I have got problem with overclocking CPU. My mb doesn't have overclocking options in BIOS, so I can overclock it via ClockGEN. When I overclock it with SATA disk connected (Seagate Barracuda 7200.7+ ST380817AS - 80GB NCQ) it freeze immediately (even with 10 MHz overclock). Without it I can overclock it without any problems. Any ideas? My SB is quite hot (idle about 55°, loading sometimes over 65°C). But I have same temperatures without that disc and there's no freezing. Thanks for your help.
Alot of people have problems overclocking using SATA drives - some people, including me have had success in changing which sata port the drive is plugged into on the mobo. I use SATA ports 3 and 4. Also, you obviously have a board that wasnt intended to be overclocked (as you have no options), therefore Im betting it doesnt have a PCI-AGP lock. Without this you'll cause hard drive corruption, possibly destroy your vga card (as i have in the past) and generally bust your pc. If youre looking to overclock you need the right parts to do it with. My suggestion would be to not bother or change your mobo and then have a crack at it........
well make sure you select an intel chipset... and make sure youve got room in youre case since it was an miniATX baord you are using.. good luck EDIT since youve got DDR ram youre a bit limited on chioce http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=24&model=632&modelmenu=1 will be good however you migh consider a move to DDR2
I'm thinking about this one http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=24&model=162&modelmenu=1 (ASUS P5GDC Deluxe). It has both DDR and DDR2 so I will not have to buy RAM modules now. I'm not sure if it will be running properly, because I had mobo with SDR and DDR266 for AthlonXP by MSI and there weren't SDR slots running. I'm not sure, but runs HyperPath also for DDR or just for DDR2? And are DDR2 600 Mhz CL 5-5-5-15 (surely the timings will be better because the modules are 667 MHz so hope it will be faster) faster than mine DDR 400 MHz 2.5-3-3-4?
well the performance @ 667mhz is okay nothing of a biggie compared to DDR1... thing is DDR2 overlocks very easily reaching 800mhz and above
