So I've just learned my GPU (2080Ti) overclock (+125 +500) stable in everything is causing Control to crash with some different errors, such as the classic GPU removed etc.

Is this an issue known or do I just have to suck it up?

its clearly not stable in everything then. :p

This is also why its silly when people say their reference gpu is perfectly fine coz XYZ game runs properly but brand new ZYX game crashes with obvious gpu stability problems blaming the driver (but others are playing the game fine with the same chip)

Control really is hard on overclocks, most RTX enabled games are. I think overclocks can appear stable in a lot of things but then when utilizing the RTX/Tensor cores the actual stability issues will show up.

I can run 150/800 OC with my 2080ti on all games without crashes, untill its a RTX title. Control or Metro Exodus for example I need to run 120/800 to not crash.

Control indeed pushed my card to the very limit forcing me to cut down my clocks from 130/800 to 70/800, same thing with The Division 2 and also with TimeSpy (Test 2).

Does memory overclocking actually boost a lot? I'm +500. Will I get much performance extra going 300 more on that alone?

in benchmarks yes, in real world not a lot in most cases. there are dimission returns on VRAM overclocking and eventual as error correction kicks in you will actual lose performance, 800, going from 7000-7800mhz on my 2080ti seems to be the sweet spot. in timespy it gives me 5-10% boost in graphics score, but in real world games the difference is maybe a few percentages at most. some games though like the bandwidth increase more than others so really depends on what is happening.

    Hi there

Usually in games or rendering SW where RT or Tensor cores are used you need to downclock GPU a bit like in BFV, Metro Exodus, Control etc and in rendering SW like is Octane, IRAY, Cycles or Redshift

Usually in normal games or non RT games I run or use 2145-2160MHz OC but for BFV, Metro Exodus or Control I use 2100-2115MHz OC as max because with my normal OC game would crash

I recommend lower OC by 15-30MHz and try again, VRAM OC won't make a lot difference I think 1-5FPS maybe, I have done few tests in ROTR and difference I have seen there 5-6FPS, in some games I have seen 2FPS as max

What VRAM modules you have there? If you have Samsung then try OC bit more, most of GPU should do at least 800MHz, my Zotac RTX 2080Ti AMP would do 1275MHz as max, Asus RTX 2080Ti Strix would do something similar

    Hope this helps

    Thanks, Jura

Might want to try the update which just came out. It's now stable.

Might give it a go then, see if it's stable and if it actually gives me any improvements.

If you're talking about Control, I've already finished the game but thanks anyway.
