I just step'd up from my gtx470 to a Evga gtx480 and am wondering why i can get a higher overclock on my GPU when i run my CPU at 3.6ghz at stock voltage. I have no issues at 850/1700/2100 but when i overclock my CPU to 3.8ghz at 1.45volts stable i can only reach a stable 800/1600/2000 in AfterBurner even with max volts i cant reach 850/1700/2100. Im using OC scanner and Heaven to benchmark also.

I believe you have run into a cooling limitation my friend.

Temps are in the 70c range in heaven.. I played BFBC2 last night without any problems well under 80C. Just have issues benchmarking.

How do you test for CPU stability?

Intel burn test i ran 200 times and prime ran overnight no issues. When running OC scanner with same overclock on GPU i will immediately get artifacts when CPU is overclocked at 3.8ghz 1.45 volts but at 3.6ghz stock volts no issues. When gaming there are no artifacts which is great just benchmarks and or i get a gray screen in heaven and i have to reboot sometimes artifacts and i shut it down quick.

EDIT got it to run no issues at 850/1700/2100 1.138volts through heaven with no issues and also OC scanner. One thing was weird it was running with vsync on when running Heaven benchmark even though it wasn't enabled in Nvidia CP or in Heaven had to force it off in Nvidia control panel. Also got my CPU to run stable at 1.42 volts at 3.8ghz. Not to sure what was going on before but its working.
