I believe that's the main reason for the criticism; it's the annoyance of finding replacement cables due to nature of the connector.

Yea definitely, I don't think it's an unfair assessment though. Like he does acknowledge G8 being the overall better monitor performance wise but it's so close that having better warranty and cheaper price would make more sense for most IMHO.

Obviously if money is of no concern you'd go with the G8, no question.

Ah well then I have to look into that. And some fairly basic research into the differences between the connectors...
I figured a DP/mini DP cable would be easy got, and that USB-C would be sufficient, counting on my GPU having it anyway, and the chance to buy a mainboard if need be too since I'm upgrading that anyway.

Do you mean USB-C on your GPU? Or the mini connectors? I wouldn't connect the monitor to the GPU via USB-C, that's more for charging or connecting external devices; your GPU would have full sized DP/HDMI ports which will connect to the mini DP/micro HDMI of the monitor.

The connector size's really a non-issue as long as the supplied cable is long enough for you and you don't need to get replacement cables in which case it'd just be more of an inconvenience more than anything. If priced the same and you don't feel like you'll get better warranty/support from either vendor I'd just get the G8. Though the DWF should still be a consideration if you could get it noticeably cheaper.

The USB Type-C at Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 support up to 120hz only.

Yeah, the DWF is about 950, the Samsung 1090€. I mean, it's still a big difference, but the question is if I am not buying into all those small features that make life easier, less annoying, and if I can't concentrate on the gaming more the less I have to deal with "stuff" :D
But yeah, you are absolutely right, since you get the same panel, the same features set (mostly), etc. Also, thanks for making me aware of that USB-C at the GPU only being for charging (I personally thought it was for displays and VR-headsets), I'm not even unsing the one on my 2080Ti right now, no driver installed for it either.

Thing is, I'm going on vacation soon, I guess I'll need a sketchbook and a pen to plan that all out, also in terms of how long my cables need to be.
Same with the whole situation of how to get the heat away from me during the summer times, but that's an interior design topic, which is not fitting for this thread. :D
That said, thanks for the remarks and making me aware.

Ah thanks, yes that explains a lot. Yes I'm going to look for the cables though, since I'd stay DP then anyway.

Haha I meant I’d leave the USB-C on the monitor for charging or connecting external devices you can still use the USB-C on the GPU for output (I missed that from my old 2070S which allowed me to connect directly to my drawing tablet) but yea like @Andrewtst said you want to use the other outputs for full bandwidth and performance.

Yup, totally agreed. Better left the USB-C for others usage.

@Andrewtst , one question: in regards to cables you're looking for, do you just look by DP or HDMI standard, or are you really going in debth and trying to find out about isolation, signal strength or w/e?

I am looking for micro HDMI cable with length 2 meter. The 1.5 meter can use but I can't even touch my PC unless I disconnected it as I had been pull very tide in between my PC and the monitor already.

be very careful about cables being pulled tight.
this leads directly to cable failure from broken solder joints or intermittant signal loss from the same.
these are expensive cables but nobody talks about cable failure which is incredibly common.
also HDMI/DP cables over 3m get much more expensive due to physics. these are small gauge wires that become radically more sensitive to RFI(radio frequency interference - i.e. acting like an antenna) and signal attenuation.
a ironclad rule of electrical engineering is "gauge is a function of distance" and DP/HDMI cables are typically 24-28 ga awg in order to fit inside the plug. mini-DP/HDMI is even more so which is why you don't see them in long lengths.

I had no choice, my PC already beside my monitor (the closer side) but still the 1.5 meter is way too short (unless I turn my PC back face to me, I don't want as it is very ugly and waste all my RGB setup, and I cannot put it front face me due to table size issue), so to allow it connected, it had been pull very tide to get reach over it (where the head is even pull over a bit), I did not touch it anymore. This is the way I can connected to it. So far I had been using it like this since 24 July 2023, so far so good and no single distortion and I need to let it be like this until I manage to get a 2 meter micro HDMI 2.1 cable. I only ask for extra 0.5 meter also unable to find. What to do. I no need 3 meter but 2 meter is fine for me, or maybe 1.8 meter is also enough. :)

As you can seen I already try to put as closed as possible my PC to the left side of my monitor where the connector is.

I got to say with Samsung knowing how large (wide) the monitor is they really should know better than to provide such a short cable.

Exactly, Samsung is some how forgotten this monitor is very long where needs a much longer cable.

you are ok the problem would be with moving around. however because of the stretch expect to need to replace the cable as soon as visual or audible problems start (probably in a year). you will start to troubleshoot because that's what we do, but the chances are it will be the cable

    you have a beautiful system

That the reason I keep finding 2 meter micro HDMI 2.1 cable.

From my experience as long I don't touch it, don't unplug it, this can last long the life time. ;)

    Thanks. :)

Oh the G8 was on sale for 930€ last week... couldn't buy it since I'm off to vacation starting tomorrow. Would have been a great deal I'd have taken... well, have to wait again :D

MSI Readies An Army of QD-OLED Gaming Monitors: DQHD 144Hz, UHD 240Hz & WQHD 360Hz Panels

    -> https://wccftech.com/msi-readies-an...itors-dqhd-144hz-uhd-240hz-wqhd-360hz-panels/

MSI QD-OLED Lineup For 1H 2024 Will Have Something For All Kinds of Gamers, Up To 49", DQHD, 360Hz Panels
The latest information comes from a well-regarded leaker, chi11eddog, who has amassed a high level of credibility when it comes to MSI leaks and other general hardware.
According to the leaker, MSI is preparing at least six next-gen QD-LED gaming displays which will be featured within MPG and MAG lineups. The models are listed below:
    • MPG 491CQP QD-OLED, DQHD/144 (5120x1440p)
    • MAG 341CQP QD-OLED, UWQHD/175 (3440x1440p)
    • MPG 321UPX QD-OLED, UHD/240 (3840x2160p)
    • MAG 321UPX QD-OLED, UHD/240 (3840x2160p)
    • MPG 271QPX QD-OLED, QHD/360 (2560x1440p)
    • MAG 271QPX QD-OLED, QHD/360 (2560x1440p)
All MSI gaming displays will feature QD-OLED technology so you can expect the best display and viewing quality.
The first gaming display to hit shelves would be the MAG 341CQP which is a QD-OLED design with a UWQHD (1800R) panel featuring a 175Hz refresh rate and USB Type-C 15W charging.
This monitor is said to be a more competitive variant of the MSI MEG 342C which is the higher-end variant that costs $999 US
so we can expect a way lower price for the MPG model and all the while retaining the same panel specs minus the premium aesthetics of the MEG segment.
