im gona do it this way if it out by time he gets the ssd I choice to do the clean install of windows, I will use the 19h1 build, other wise I will just use 1809 build, at I know the 1809 build issue have been rooted out atlest the major ones. And by this I mean the media creation tool for this build is offical released
Oh, I see, that makes sense, actually. But if that microcode update is the one intended to fix the new Intel CPUs vulnerabilities, I don't get why my machine would be getting it, as it's an AMD-based system.
LOL I remember I got an error about some application being in use when I rebooted the first time. Didn't seem to count to 30%, reboot and count to 100% completion again. But was listed as 'successful'. Using the .msu directly from Microsoft Catalog seems to have solved the necessity for rebooting twice and checking twice for updates though (for use on other computers).
What drivers do you guys use who have an recent intel mobo (Z170,Z270,Z370,Z390) for chipset, mei, ahci, intel, lan? I want to clean install this version of Windows and Asus support page only has Redstone 5 drivers. Should i use all the latest drivers directly from Intel? A member on the the rog forums has posted all the latest drivers for the above chipsets for Windows 10 64 bit 1809/RS5/17763.x or more recent.
windows 10 handles mei drivers just fine on its own and with the retpoline changes, microsofts own storage driver is faster in some cases vs intels.
I don't get it why MS didn't release the latest Intel microcode updates with that CU, well at least not for my Haswell. Intel already released new microcode that fixes ZombieLoad vulnerability so I flashed it myself. You might want to check whether you have the latest microcode here https://www.intel.com/content/dam/w...A00233-microcode-update-guidance_05132019.pdf and here Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DESCRIPTION\System\CentralProcessor\0

Skylake and newer generations of Intel processors are not compatible with Retpoline. Same here no problems to report so far.
they do support the import optimizations however, and the retpoline patch and support must be enabled to take advantage of them
