official beta 81.87

Discussion in 'Videocards - NVIDIA GeForce Drivers Section' started by GaryX, Oct 27, 2005.

  1. I downloaded this drivers yesterday and tested them today.

COD2 runs much better, fraps fps is close to double, especially with all the bells and whistles enabled, the 81.85 WHQL (my favorite) are much slower in COD2.

other games such as F.E.A.R and Quake4, i can state clearly that the 81.87 IQ aint on par with 81.85, but not as big as 78.01 to 81.85.

performance on all my games is the same, if anything games run great just as the 81.85 (if not better) :p

I like this new 81.87 and will be keeping them, they are great.

What happens to your frames when you turn one core off? I'm curious to how much of an increase these drivers give in dualcore vs singlecore.

Hey, thanks god, i'm not the only one. I tried to roll back drivers but no effect. I was almost certain of hardware problem, but a very large part of us got this bug. And yes, this must be a driver effect :/

The only tip that I found, is to play without any programs in background...if a software is trying to refresh a window, then the game I was playing stops with a sound loop then lock up...

Try to play without MSN, or any refreshing software in background. Games can still lock up, but much less.

PS : sorry for my crap english ^^

Come on guys, I just tried 3dMark 05, it looks like sh*t. I can post you screens of that if you want, but it's the same thing as in the box shot. Guys, I need your help. Oh, and HLH said it might be that new drivers have triggered some weakness in my card. And that it's known to happen. Could it be so?

Just tried those 81.87 with COD2 , and i can say the gameplay is much smother , preety good , as for FEAR and Quake4 ... preety much same as 81.85 maybe little bit faster ... dunno .

    gonna keep those 87 .

  6. Well, i try turn off 1 core and performance is the same as 81.85, however switching to dual-core, performance is waaay better than 81.85 in COD2.

in other games not much difference between 81.85 and the new 81.87,
COD2 is the one showing greater performance increase with 81.87.

    RULE OF THUMB:

Remember your result may vary cause no 2 PC will react the same way with same drivers.

I get higher speed, you get slower, another get bugs, another cant install them....and so on. :p

whats the difference in gameplay with a dual core processor? there arent any multithreaded games so its only going to use one core anyways.

true, but it seems like Nvidia is using both cores to help render the graphics through the drivers themselves, rather than multi threaded coding;)

That's interesting. I always thought that if I uninstall the drivers and used driver cleaner, I could wipe out any unexpected effects of the now-removed drivers and get back to what my system used to be like with the older drivers. I would find it disturbing if uninstalled drivers could still FUBAR my machine.

PC gaming is a waste of time for me now, thank god the X360 is out soon and thanks nvidia for the £700 worth of useless crap I now have. :)

I've uninstalled 81.87 and 85 properly, used driver cleaner pro, manually deleted, deleted in safe mode etc etc etc. Sill I get stuttering in CS:S when specific sounds are played and I'm experiencing lockups in all games where I hear a slight sound looping, sometimes crackling. I even tried removing my Audigy altogether and playing with the cruddy onboard.. same problem.
Everything was fine previously, I only updated because of the weird mouse cursor problem I was experiencing (mentioning in the changelog of 81.85)

Any ideas before I bin this pile of junk.

Ehh, the BF2 map is as it is because of 1.03 patch. It adjusts the map to fit your view. However, at least in 16pl maps it zooms so close that you can't even read it, Dice didn't understand that they had had to make a high-res map for stuff like that.

I can't tell about frames, I noticed that 81.85, for some reason, reset my clocks to 350/1000. So I've been happily running on GT's speeds. Now I have 78.05.

Ignore the previous posts, if you want to help me, and I hope you do, here:

Sounds to me like a overheating issue, i had same symptoms you just described, turned out the thermal detoriated preety quick and caused the cooling performance go downhill and experienced overheating, didnt know what was the problem at first but after doing some research and got some ideas that thermal could of been the problem and in fact it was, replaced it and now its running good, no more lock ups. Not saying it could be your thermal paste, but it sure sounds like a overheating issue to me, maybe the drivers don't overclock to well, i don't know. Maybe underclock your system to stock and try that out, other than that i have no other ideas.

The "display SLI load" feature under the SLI settings does not show up in games for me if I use SLI and have vertical sync "on". Not complaining, more just an observation. :) Maybe it was there before and I never noticed?

Install 78.03 (X_G) for starters, I get looping and stutters with the new 81 drivers, turn off fast writes in bios, it's a waste of time and can contribute towards looping and sound lag. You will get huge cpu limitation with your rig due to running two mammoth cards on an average cpu. (4000+ is now going for £240 from Komplett.co.uk). If your using the new OpenAL beta drivers from Creative then expect possible looping/stutters (i did) and roll back.

EDIT: Sorry but can't work out what the XP 3000+ @2.7 is, 939 mobo right?

Try the 81.82HDv2 (X_G) if you want, they are the best drivers for 6800GT I've tried, even better than 78.03. I have kept using them after trying all the new drivers, no temp bug and smooth BF2 with everything maxed out.

As far as I know Fast Writes and SBA features work only on AGP systems and they don't affect PCI-E systems.
