Official 174.16 for XP 32, modded by me for all cards

As title, ive modded the XP 32bit set for all 6/7/8 series cards.

Don't install the drivers from the downloaded.exe, extract it, then copy my modded .inf into the folder you extracted the drivers to, to replace the .inf thats already in there, and then run the setup.exe from in there to install drivers as normal.

EDIT: English only .inf here (for if you have downloaded the U.S. English set, as above .inf only works with International set.

It works for 8800 GT and GTS, my modded .inf up there only works with the English International set (which i linked to).

For the English only set (which is U.S. English), use this modded .inf. ive now done for those.

I don't get how I am supposed to mod the inf. When I download it the only thing it gives me is the setup. It doesn't give me the ability to unzip it. So I cannot get into the folders and .inf :/ Help would be greatly appreciated.

I just don't get why Nvidia did not just do this themselves. Would it kill them to support something other than what is new?

Use winrar to extract the exe, its a self extracing executable. The most common and easily way to do this, is to right click on the exe and select "Extract to...".

 

Yes, then once the files have extracted, drag my .inf over to all those files, and it will say the usual, that its already there blah, blah, blah, do you want to replace, say yes, then run the Setup.exe to install them (not the one you extracted).

Was going to check out the new 174 drivers over the weekend, but been pushing it off cause I finally have a stable OC on my card and Im too lazy to go thru the proces of OC>test>OC>test>OC.... you get the point

 

It just lets you install the drivers on any cards, as i just added all the rest into the .inf, as these drivers are only for the 9600 GT.

 

Any benchmarks yet? I'm a bit too scared to test drivers that don't suit my card

I find it very annoying that Nvidia basically forgets about the older cards when a new one comes out :/ The last beta driver was Jan. 10.

Anyways I will test this out and see how it goes!

The 174.13 gave me amazing improvements in CoD 4. I had this problem with it where the game would stutter immensely and slow down at the weirdest places even though I was maintaining 50+ fps. That was fixed with those drivers. Hopefully these are even better.

EDIT: Umm not the one I extracted? As in install it using the original installer? The one that I downloaded? (sorry for the noob questions lol. Believe it or not I have never used Winrar. Never had the need for it. )

 

im going to try installing this drivers. the 171.23 are good drivers so this ones might be better.

 

When you download the drivers normally, you have 1x single .exe (the original installer, which is called 174.16_geforce_winxp_32bit_english.exe in this case) file that you double-click to unpack and install the drivers at the same time as normal, but you don't do that, you right-click it instead, and select extract here so that it just unpacks without installing, then when you see all the files extracted, you just drag my modded .inf across, and it will say already exists, do you want to replace, say yes, then look amongst the extracted files for the one named Setup.exe instead (which is not the original installer), as thats the the one you need to double-click to install, and welcome to Guru airborne33.

I can't remember but if you dont have winrar, then you can just use the windows built in one, so you can still extract them, it may say unzip or something instead when you right click it instead of extract, or you can just download winrar and install it, as it doesn't need to be ran when you want to use it, as when its installed, you can just right-click packed files (zipped up, like the original installer of the drivers, or the winrar identifier files, which look like 3x bound books, so you know those can be unpacked with winrar), and its extract options appear in the menu.

 

just installed this drivers and they seem to improve performance in both Crysis and CoD4. this are keepers for me

I downloaded the English (US) version from the non-UK web and I also got the missing file error. I'm now downloading the international version with the first mod you posted. I hope this one works.
