    I need a new PSU for my X1950XT, this 420w with a 14a +12v isn't cutting it. I have 2 HDDs, 2 DDR2 ram sticks, an X2 3800+, and a multi burner.

My case is pretty small, and I wanted modular.

If this one will power my PC, that's the one I'll get

But if not, this is my second choice
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341002

The box for my card recommends a 30A +12v

In your expert opinion, is the Hiper PSU enough for my system, or should I go with the OCZ?

(The PSU I have now runs the card for hours on load, but I can't plug in both HDDs at once >_<)

I'm open to any suggestions for other PSUs, but I REALLY like this design

I used a Hiper 580W in my current Rig for weeks, and loved it.

I used it in my old 45% overclocked Opteron before, and it was rock solid.

As I said, personally, my Hiper rocked.

And don't forget, OCZ don't make PSUs, they just rebrand OEM ones...

    They rebrand FSP oem ones.

Don't know if this is the same version, but the previous type-R PSU's from Hiper died like flies in gasoline. I don't think I've ever seen so many reports from dead PSU's as that one. There was this dedicated thread for dead Type-R's at hardware.no, and it was HUGE. The GameXstream is okay, but it's an FSP Epsilon OEM, and they do produce quite a bit of ripple on the 12v rails. I got rid of mine for this very reason.

So, what do you guys reccomend for a PSU that will power my rig and is under $200? Modular if possible...

Hmm, now I'm really confused on which to buy. I really can't afford anything over $100, I spent all my cash on the video card and ram. I think Hiper has fixed the issue of dying PSUs, and they (Hiper and OCZ) get very similar reviews everywhere I look....

Trust us, you don't want to get a sub-par PSU. Spend the extra cash and get a quality unit. The PSU is the most overlooked piece of hardware in a PC and it's ironic that it is also the most important piece in a PC. PSUs are not all made equal and in the case of PSUs, you get what you pay for. In other words, don't cheap out on the PSU.

My 420 that came with the case isn't doing too bad, and by all accounts it sucks ass. I think the $100 one would be fine. I would probably need to upgrade the PSU again for my next big purchase, no matter which one I choose. (That big purchase being a 9000 series and new proc in 18 months)

Just because you "think" that it's doing fine doesn't mean that all is well. There is a lot going on that you cannot see like ripple, power spikes, voltage drops and inefficiency of the unit that are all conspiring to put undue strain on your PCs components and will kill them a lot sooner than they should last.

It's your money, but i would spend the extra few $$$ now and ensure that your system is stable and being fed "clean" power. And a 700w unit will still be more than enough for the next round of CPUs and GPUs as long as you get a quality unit.

    US Hiper's suck arse.

UK/European Hiper's are good, if not quite 600W peak.

i dont know what the problem with the hiper type R is iv had mine throughout my last 4 system builds which is about 2 years and its never let me down with any of them, its probably the best £80 iv ever spent.

Pounds Sterling eh? Easy to see which side of the pond we sit on.

    You too Copey. ;)

The US version of Hiper products are NOT the same as the European. Different voltage systems.

There are some US PSUs, billed as universal, which are similarly crap in Europe.

Best to find out what works LOCALLY to you... and don't always assume posters come from the USA.
