I'm trying to figure it out. So I'm getting a new case, and every review for every case lately I read "Well, no inclusion of a side-window is a minus." ect.

And I see users "Aw, no side window? I really wanted this though."

Or people who mod their case to put in one. Every review for ever case seems to think no side-window by default is somehow such a horrible thing.

I don't get it; why are people obsessed with them? I think they look stupid. They let light leak out everywhere and distract you from looking at your screen, or trying to sleep with the computer on and all the stupid LED's are flying in every direction. I wanna take the little LEDs and crush em on my case. Try watching a movie or playing a game with those LED's and my eye will keep focusing on them.

And I am talking with them not even facing my direction; but away. So why did people suddenly become all about eye-candy with computers? Throw your rig together and enjoy it. Why do you now have to be able to look inside at the parts and go "hmm, hmm" when you can just take the side panel off and look inside.

I feel like I'm crazy here, I'm the only one who doesn't like side-windows and doesn't spend hours gazing my tower.

People take a lot more pride in many things inside their computer. The CPU cooler, power supply wiring, and especially water cooling loops are all much more fun to look at than a black solid side panel. Windows and lighting CAN easily be overdone, but some people would rather have too much than not enough.

I agree with you. Gets annoying real quick. Certain themes, maybe for lan parties or competiton I see it as okay. For the home user its kind of like getting one of those hondas with the 8 inch coffee can exhaust on it screaming, hey look at me!

I prefer the clean box look, with 2 lights, one for the power and one for the hdd, thats about it. Its no ones business what I put in my computer.

It's the same thing when people dress a cars' engine. Hell some peoples rigs are cleaner than the room they are in.
I don't really like side windows because the scratches are permanent, so I prefer a large mesh rectangle. The LED's don't bother me because helps me see my room at night without walking into stuff. Another plus(?) is chicks dig it.

Never cared for windows. I don't look at my stuff thru it. If I have to look in there for any reason I am gonna take the side of anyway so windows are pretty pointless to me too.

Most of the cases I like have side windows.....
Only thing that prevents me from buying them....the side window.

During my next "upgrade"....my case is being painted black internally. No side window though. Might take the size panels to work and get the painter to dress them up a bit. Thinking shadow blue metallic.....but the Antec logo in metallic or flat black.

I never get why people would rather want a window over a hole for a fan.

    Performance > looks!

The Zr1's do :nerd:. I like my side window though. I mean, it can look alright if not overdone. Now, do I like the ones with bright yellow neon fans and a blue and red and green LED theme all in one? Hell no. One color, don't make it too bright.

I for one can go either way. Although I prefer more elegant designs as opposed to radical ones. Which is why I went with the Fractal Design XL I have now. Very elegant.

However my first case had a window, so when I bought my next case I made it a mission to get one with the biggest window. I do like looking at my hardware doing its job, its satisfying. I agree on the LED front, but theres no LEDs running inside my computer and only the power LED on the outside so having a window would have no effect on me at night. Wouldnt matter anyway since I have my router and modem LEDs always flickering at me.

I also tend to have this weird issue of having to touch heatsinks just to feel how hot they are. To assure me that my hardware is working hard.

I don't like side-fans. They're a bit more noise right in my ear with where I have my computer sitting, you have to worry about the power cable every time you take the door off and try to set it somewhere, and they mess up the neat front-bottom to rear-top airflow I arrange.

Ideally I would want a dark smoked acrylic window with white LED's/cold cathodes. An ambient internal light that would let you see everything, but not make you wake up in the middle of the night thinking you're being abducted by aliens.

ahaha this happened to me! Well not exactly. On an old rig I had two white LED fans on the roof and a single white cathode. I woke up in the middle of the night and thought it was morning. Was about to put pants on and errthang.

    ^wow that is ugly.

Back to the subject. I don't mind a side window but is not a deal breaker. I have a Corsair 400R and I actually switched the fans to Noiseblockers cause I hate leds.

I don't insist on having a window either, or bright lights.

I also don't understand some of the popular "cons" in the reviews. Like: no thumbscrews included, or no tooless design, fewer HDD cages, no manual?, simple packaging?!? and my personal favourite: colourful case cables. What's wrong with your USB 3.0 cable being blue and not black??? It's just people have different preferences and pay different amount of money. I usually use up to 2 HDDs, I don't care if the case doesn't have 8-9 nests for HDDs, I will never use them in the life cycle of this enclosure. And who needs a manual anyway :D :D
