Wait, what? When did they come out with a softquadro solution for geforce cards (other than the 6800's)? Or you talking about that lame hack that only works with 3dMax.

For those how have modded GeForce to Quadro please test with a real world scenes not specview. Specview sucks... doesn't show the real potential of a card. Take a look at this thread http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?p=3185440#post3185440 you'll se that a real FirePro V5700 has almost the same performance as a 9800GTX or 8800 Ultra in maya but the Quadro FX 580 or modded 8800 ultra has a lot more performance, contrary specview tell us. First go to display\head up display\frame rate.

With the bike scene: just open and zoom in\out, rotate and tell how many fps do you get. My results was 12-13 fps. With mayascene2.ma, open it, ignore all the error messages and press play. My 9800GTX get 6 to 8,7 fps. The textbench: you'll need to set the scene to automatically load the textures and press play. I have constantly 15fps. I have windows 7 build 7201 x64, driver version 186.16 and a 22" 1680x1050 monitor.

I apologize for my bad english is not native. :)

Just to report to people who use 3ds max. Stylers softmod for 182.08 driver works on XP64 (Maxtreme driver). I use a 8600GT (256mb) at home and an Quadro FX1700 (512mb) at work and the performance is in indistinguishable. I have not detected any errors or problems using this mod so far in 3ds max.
I even have a softmoded ATI 3870 (v7700) which works the same with or without the mod. Most heavy scenes are slower (around 30%, it's mostly scene dependant) on the ATI card than the "architecturaly inferior" Quadro FX1700.

I just got a 8800GT which I am gonna mod to an FX3700 and report back the performance in 3ds max.

I won't bother you with specview cos it's not relevant at all.

Styler if it isn't asking too much, can you update the script to work with the latest quadro drivers?

    edit:
NVStrap is not supported on G9x GPUs.

    edit:
I tried to flash the 8800GT bios with the changed device id to 061A (Quadro FX3700) but it's no good. The card still reports as 0611 (8800GT).
Can I flash an original FX3700 bios? Would this destroy the card? Would this change anything? I just wan't to run the 3ds max performance driver - with the "stupid hack" (not so stupid to me).

I want to put a Quadro driver on my 9800GTX , it is possible to mod my 9800GTX to a Quadro FX 3700. Please some one help me, I'm a noob in modding, I'v never mod a card before. BTW the nvstrap from rivatuner is missing, I'v install an old geforce driver (175 or something like this) and the nvstrap is still missing, i'v the latest version of rivatuner.

Ok! I understand :). So which steps should I follow to install a Quadro driver on my 9800GTX without rivatuner?

As there is no nvstrap support the only way to do the maxtreme 3ds max trick is to change the device id of your card trough bios. I have found a moddified bios for my 8800GT and the card is recognised as FX1700 but without the OpenGL acceleration. With moddified 182.08 (by Styler) you can run the maxtreme driver as a real quadro fx card. The improvement is around 20% at least on my scenes.

You WONT be able to unlock the real quadro fx card this way as this appears to be impossible - edit: looks like I was wrong about this one. More info about changing the device id trough bios flashing can be found on this link and this link.

Let me tell you this isn't easy to accomplish. You can't just change device id in your bios with NiBitor. The bios needs to be modifier even further. Be warned by using this methods you can destory your card. The above method works for 8800GT.

There is some OpenGL unlock on modded nvidia cards. Thats why I want to mod my 9800GTX to a Quadro FX :D. For maya:).

Even if you could crack the drivers so they rly transform your GeForce to Quadro you still have one problem. You need to change your cards deviceID to match a Quadro card.

Latest nvstrap (rivatuner 2.24) doesn't support cards above G8x chip (first 8800 chips - 320/640/GTX, 8600GT...). Changing the cards BIOS to match the deviceID is difficult. It's your only shot but Nvidia has put some protection and it's not so easy to just chenge the deviceID with the NiBitor.
It's also questionable if you even changed the deviceID and installed the latest modded drivers what you would get. It could work great, then again you could get a buggy card in the program of your choice.

Get a cheap (used) 8600GT which is easy to mod and then try it in your program. You might learn that the mod doesn't work and it's not worth it modding your G9x or G200 chips.

I think there is a reason why Unwinder gave up on nvstrap and Quadro modding. :bang:

To bad :bang::wanker: .The 8800 ultra give decent performance in maya. Maybe if we ask Unwinder to put nvstrap back in rivatuner for G92 and GT200 and give a try :). What do you think ?

    @Maryus3D

I have benchmarked your Maya scenes on a HP workstation xw4600 (spec: q9550@2,83, 4 gig ram, Quadro FX1700 - everything stock no overclocking). Using Maya 2009 Trial.
I set AA and AF on aplication setting (meaning no AA or AF). Screen size is set to 1680x1050. OS is XP x64 SP2.

    mayascene2 - 1680x1050
    7 - 9.7 FPS - Shade
    17 - 24 FPS - Wire
    6.2 - 9.1 FPS - Shade+Wire

    bike - 1680x1050
    47.5 FPS - Shade
    100 FPS - Wire
    41.5 FPS - Shade+Wire

    edit1:
    TextBench - 1280x1024 - no textures
    85 FPS - Shade
    147 FPS - Wire
    67 FPS - Shade+Wire

edit2: Test results on an 8800GT@FX3700, q9550@2,83 (same as my workstation so we can take the CPU out of equation)

    bike - 1680x1050
    19 FPS - Shade
    60 FPS - Wire
    15.5 FPS - Shade+Wire

    TextBench - 1280x1024 - no textures
    20 FPS - Shade
    45 FPS - Wire
    20 FPS - Shade+Wire

What is this high quality mode everyone is benching?

Mayascene2 is to heavy for every computer donno what is the problem: the video card, the CPU, the HDD. But the bike scene has no problem. Very nice resaults for Quadro FX 1700. Even for the mayascene2 :). Hope there will be softmodding for G92 or even GT200:thumbup: . 10x n4d444 :).

Before I go into it. Thanke you Gellmar, Styler and all you good people on this forum for making this come true.

Quadro softmod for Maya 2009 x64 and 3dsmax x64 work (182.08 driver + Styler patchscript).
I moded an 8600GT and an 8800GT then I compared them to a "real" Quadro FX1700 and the results match perfectly (at least in Maya 2009 and 3ds max). Before pm-ing me with a hundred questions please read the whole thread. Everything is explained in there.

Here are the screenshots of specview and the Maya bench scenes that Maryus3D (ty Maryus3D) provided. All benches have been done on 1280x1024 screen size (default for specview). I have put them all together in the same image for easy comparison. I have put the 8600GT mod on the left column and the 8800GT on the right column. Enjoy. Screen shots have been scaled down to make the images smaller. Originals are all 1280x1024.

I know it's not a complete success cos real quadros have higher scores on specview but the viewport inside Maya 2009 moves just as fast as on a real quadro. It would be good if someone else could try the mod on proengineer or solidworks.
The mod doesn't accelerate anything but Maya in specview but contrary to that 3ds max works just as good as it does on a real quadro fx card. BTW I am a Max user I don't use Maya.
Specview is getting old and it doesn't show how these new programs work.

Unwinder if you read this it would rely help us if you made a new nvstrap that supports latest cards. I had to mod the BIOS of the 8800GT to be able to mod the card and it's tricky.

    edit:
I am just at work testing the real Quadro FX1700 (q9550@2,83GHz) and the results are suprising. Looks like the 8600GT and I guess 8800GT mods are complete. Nothing is missing. The scores are even lower on this FX1700. Maya specview composit score is 86. I have checked all the Maya scores one by one and they appera all a bit lower cos this comp is running stock unlike my home comp that is oveclocked.
Guys looks like we have a real quadro here for Maya. :eek3:
I will save all the screenshots then compare them to my home comp clocked to the same level as this workstation just to make an accurate comparison.
I will try to post the screenshots comparing a real FX1700 to 8600GT mod later in the afternoon.

    edit: @NormanBates
I know about that review but it's missing the older gen of quadros that I have geforce equivalents. There's no FX570, FX1700 or FX3700 so we can't realy compare scores. As I have a real FX1700 I can compare scores to the 8600GT cos it's basicaly the same card.
