Patched drivers all the way man. Card becomes several times faster in Maya than with unpatched drivers.

    @danmarell
You are doing something wrong. I have both the Autodesk Maya and Autodesk Maya 2009 Stereo and I only installed 182.08.
    Try this:
Copy NvwsApps.xm_ over NvApps.xm_ In the directory where you unpacked the 182.08 and patched them and install again.
NvApps.xm_ - contains profiles for regular geforce cards and NvwsApps.xm_ contains profiles for Quadro cards IIRC. This is a way to force the quadro profiles to appear inside nvcpanel.

This option could also be unavailable for your graphic card. I never tested this mod on Win7 and I am still using XP for a production OS. This could also be Win7 related. If you badly need performance I suggest you switch to XP x64.

I'm installing xp64 now and will try the patched 182.08 drivers again. My win7 installation got really buggy after playing around with drivers too much.

Any luck with newer drivers? I'm keen to try quad buffered stereo with 3d vision glasses and the glasses' IR emitter only work with the drivers after version 186.18 apparently.

Okay xp64 installed, and now I can see the Autodesk 2009 stereo profile. I think I've discovered why VISTA and win7 doesn't have this. It's because the driver doesn't support windowed stereo mode. It says this in the driver release notes. So if people want stereo opengl, xp is the way to go.

    Hello Guys,

I need to unlock the OpenGL quad buffer.
I see that some of you had success modding an 8800 graphics card.
Have you tried modding a newer card, such as a 9800 GT, 250 GTS or even the
    295 GTX ?

Can you unlock the OpenGL Stereo API (quad buffer) ?

    Hello Guys.

I have a Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTX, and I am using Windows Vista x64.
I read the whole thread 2 or 3 times. So, here is what i did:
    - downloaded the 182.08 quadro driver, and patched it with the
    ultrabitch modification on Styler script.
    - I can use the Nvstrap, so I don't need to use the bios flash thing.
    - installed Riva Tuner, unlock the quadro FX 4600. Reboot.
    - installed the patched driver, avoiding the driver signature issue.

So, now the computer recognizes the Graphics Card as a Quadro 4600,
and i have the 3D Apps in nvidia control panel, as you can see.

    http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/8211/riva3.jpg

The OpenGL pro capabilites are enabled in Riva Tuner:

    http://img709.imageshack.us/img709/3059/riva1.jpg

Now, I need the softmod because I want to use the OpenGL quad buffer directly. I dont
need to use Maya or 3DsMax. But I have a problem. Everytime I try to run a simple C/OpenGL application,
such as "Glut Shapes Demo", it crashes. For some reason, Left 4 Dead 2
crashes too (OpenGL again ?), but Modern Warfare 2 is running fine (direct3D, I suppose).
So, am I missing something about the softmod ? Does anyone have the same problem ?

I think L4D2 uses D3D. The game is buggy so no wonder if it's crashing for whatever reason.
Try different profiles in nv control panel. Set it to 'Autodesk Maya' or 'Autodesk Maya 2009 Stereo'. If that doesn't work then I am sorry but I think that's as far as it gets.

I don't think anyone tried Quad-buffered Stereo before. We were just happy to get 3ds max and Maya running faster. Maybe you should look for a real quadro fx. You can find them cheap on ebay.

I already try this softmodded 8800GT with Nuke, and it shows an incredible performance boost compare to the original 8800GT. I get almost realtime preview when using 2 of the most heavy filter (T_rays and godrays) on 1080p footage.

On the original 8800GT, I have to wait for few seconds before I can see the result in the preview window.

I would not be reading this thread if I, too, did not want Quadro OpenGL performance at a Geforce price, but I do think you are a bit unfair to NVidia' strategy. NVidia employs more software engineers than hardware, and one reason is Quadro driver development. Pricing is not just a function of hardware unit costs, but of total overhead as well.

Don't want to harangue, and I understand you are faced with real costs, and perhaps NVidia could lower prices somewhat. But I just don't think of Quadro pricing as being entirely unfair.

Can you explain me how you patched the driver ? Did you used the maxtreme ou the normal drivers ? I cant do it working on my win7 :/ Thanks.

BTW Ive flashed my 88000GTX with a QFX4600 bios, but Nvflash always writes a wrong device ID ( 0196 ) but in the QFX bios the device ID is 019E. What's wrong with it ? I flash with usbstick boot and I use the command nvflash -4 -5 -6 bios.rom
The fact is my card is not recognized after the flash.

You actually don't need any bios hacking with 8800GTX. Just use nvstrap that comes with RivaTuner. But on 7, you need to install ready plus driver before patching/installing the quadro driver.

    Softmod Quadro Quad Buffer 8600GTM

    Hey Guys,

So it worked! Thanks so much! I can get quad buffer to run and i can watch videos in Stereoscopic Player with Quadbuffer on.

But theirs one catch. I can't drive the nvidia 3dvision dongle unless I have a driver version of 197.03 or greater.

So I went ahead and downloaded 197.03_Quadro_win7_winvista_64bit_english_whql

    And attempted to run

But I was unable to identify anything. It looks a bit like a jump instruction to me. But if anyone can provide more input it would be greatly appreciated as I would love to have my system working with 3d vision after having been shafted by nvidia.

I did attempt to comment out those patch lines, patched the driver and went to install, but started getting hardware mismatch errors (surprise surprise). So I am guessing it's an essential bit of the patch.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch!

    Quad Buffer!

    Hey Guys,

Just wanted to update that after installing the 259.57 I now despite the fact it complained about some crap (after having removed those lines i mentioned above) I now have working 3d vision using directx! I'm pretty sure all the pro features including quad buffer open gl dont work due to the line above that I couldn't replace properly. but I can finally watch 3d movies on my m1530 8600gt! Score!! Who's a happy camper!! :) I'de still be really happy if there was some way to get Quad buffer working with 259.57. But I have a sneaking suspicion it's not going to be easy to find the equivalent line I need to change :(. Here's a link to the driver if anyone wants to be ambitious.

    http://www.nvidia.com/object/quadro-win7-winvista-64bit-259.57-whql-driver.html

    Peter

    *Update*
Thanks to a dissasembler I think i might have managed to unlock the latest 259.57 driver after fiddling around looking for similar patterns in a disassembler. No promises though.

    Code:
; NVSoftQuadroX patchscript by Styler - for XP 64bit Quadro softmods
; based on gellmaR (gellmar@yahoo.com) patchscript
; vista fix - ultrabitch (for 259.57) fiddling by spaman64 (QB working) ;)
