$800 seems about right, the 6990 is $710-750. There's no denying nvidia is a more quality product, definitely worth the extra dough. (I've owned every high-end GPU by both red team and green team for nearly 15 years).
MORE QUALITY PRODUCT. LOL. Please, go away nvidia fan boy. I've used radeons for over 10 years, no problem. Only 1 time I bothered to buy overpriced nvidia only to see it frying up on start up.
$799 works out at around just under £500. Ill be picking up 2 of these if there around £500 here in the uk.
im not sure its a more quality product. but they do have more features. sverek, only one looking like a fanboy is you. he merely said his opinion. and there you are already calling out fanboy. grow up.
A single 580 costs £400 in UK so expect £650 + for sure it will cost more than the 6990 which costs us £550 If the 590 is going to be limited to say 1000 units or so then i wouldnt be surprised to see £750 price tag.
And shipping costs and the price gouging. What USA pay and what we pay are 2 different things we always get robbed.
We pay a extra 20% in VAT i think in America a ATI 6990 is around $700 which should make it £432 but the price we pay is £550 which is = to $892
Yeah, you can pick up a 6990 on that same site for $699, so if $799 is accurate, then the GTX590 will likely be £650-700. If those clocks are right, then it will be slower than the 6990, and also be more expensive, and the people wanting to buy two of them, would likely be wasting their money as 3x570 would likely be as fast, unless Nvidia suddenly support quad SLI for anything more than 3D Mark. Course, im only talking about at stock, an overclocked GTX590 is quite likely to beat an overclocked 6990, as im sure improved SLI scaling is one Nvidia's biggest priorities, but at stock speeds, which the reviews will be mostly done at, it could look rather meh for the money.
quad sli was working on the 295 it just doesnt scale good. i dont think they have improved on quad sli scaling this why i discarted quad sli for me in future after the 295's. at $800 each $1600 for quad while tri 580's would be bit less than $1500 and will be faster. to me the card at $800 just isnt attractive anymore. its looking like ill be grabing a gtx 580 after all this wait. althou im in no hurry, still have several months till battlefield 3 is released. thats the big tittle dx11 i must have dx11 gpu for it.
I know they released a driver that added it for Vantage i think, but thats it as far as i know. Tri SLI GTX570 would be very similar and alot cheaper, and if someone is spending that much on two dual-gpu cards then they can afford a decent m/board. avivoni you going for a single GTX580 then, or two in SLI, for BF3 even 2x570 would be more than enough.
at the moment would only be single 580 if that where the chosen one. for some reason i dislike the 570. if I where to buy today id choose 560ti sli and OC those. but i can wait couple more months. theres no game im interested in that I would need to upgrade right away for. so down the road, yes gtx580 single but definitly sli'd when needed. hopefully by time bf3 hits the stores there will be new card or just better pricing.
