Q3 2022 Discrete GPU Market Share Report: NVIDIA Gains 88% Market Share Hold, AMD Now at 8% Followed By Intel at 4%

So coming to the discrete GPU market share numbers, the report tells us that the dGPU shipments decline to 14 million units versus 24 million units in the previous year. That's a drop of -41.6% & is quite massive if you consider that the third quarter is usually the strongest growth quarter for PCs. During this quarter, NVIDIA managed to raise its market hold to 88%, a record number followed by AMD whose market hold declined to single-digit figures of just 8%. Intel managed to more or less retain its share hold of 4%, witnessing a 1% decline from the previous quarter but a solid 4-5% gain versus the previous year.

AMD really needs this next gen to be a killer series on price to performance and features. And i'm not really talking about the high end.

Yup, but Lisa thinks otherwise ;) pricing at 1k (So it will be less and less share y-y)
7900XTX should be max at 799$ and XT at 699$ or even 649$

Now thing about EU - 1k is > than 1200€ then other is not cheaper either.... bad pricing IMhO
Lisa is now working for Jensen and selling Ampere stock o_O

AMD is now brand for AMD fans only, ATI is gone for good IMO.
Just look back into past when ATI have 40-50% but they where very apealing Price> Perf.

6800xt successor at 899, rt performance at nvidias last gen level, fsr 3 coming no one knows when.... If arc 2nd gen is good in terms of price/perf itll be a really hard time for their GPU division

That's why Raja left, they don't support GPU div. enough.
Now look at Intel Raja = RT is almost at Ampere level, AI XeSS (All of this @ first aproach ;)) -> good base for future GPUs (STOP - those are FACTS).

AMD is all about Console & CPU* period.

    * I love my 5950X BTW, very good uArch.

if RT is at Ampere level RDNA 3 will be a smash hit. idk what you're going on about though because AMD has the lowest manufacturing cost than either Nvidia or Intel. and considering Intel owns their own fabs (next gen production) that's saying quite a bit.

    higher costs for real

as a minor supplier to both Nvidia and AMD i can tell you our costs rose and we increased prices like most suppliers.
the effect across the supply ecosystem is like V.A.T.

could they lower the price by another 10-15% ? no doubt, but that tool is kept in the back pocket for after launch just like Ryzen 4

    also...
there is market psychology at play. both 7900x and xtx are targeting the rtx4080. too far of the price of the competition and some people will assume it's "not as good". look at designer clothing for the most extreme version of this effect

yes they are targeting the 4080.
but like i said "if the RT performance is the same or close to Ampere this is a win" as both are hundreds less than the 4080
AMD doesn't need to target last gen at all.

rt performance will be 3080Ti level though, maybe not even that if we're talking about games with several rt effects at once, so way behind 4080 that it rivlas it seems.

if 1.8x is even the actual number, you know that was in their own slides, 4080 is at 2.5x in dying light 2.

The 4080s are already dropping prices or being placed on "Hot Deals" and removing up to $400 off. So are a few 4090s getting $300 off.

If these cards were selling they wouldn't be already cutting their prices by such a large amount. I expect them to drop even more next year. lol

Man I could understand people paying <250usd for GPU to play old games (that's where rx6600 make sense at current price), but paying 1000usd for new GPU then spouting BS "RT doesn't matter for now" is just retarded.

That would be like paying for first class air travel then sit in the economy because all they want is to travel A to B.

7900XTX RT perf is basically pointless, it requires FSR Performance mode to even get 60FPS, rendering the final image to be a shimmering mess.

some people are still undecided if raytraced gi,ao, shadows and reflections are really more futureproof than rasterized.
    https://imgsli.com/MTM2MzA1
nah, it will do a lot better. still, it'll match 3080Ti, not bad but not great either for a 1000usd card. I don't get how any of those (4080/7900) is well priced, or one any better than the other. 4080 will be ~40% faster in RT. I wouldn't care about rasterized performance too much tbh, anything that's faster than a 3090 is going to crush it.

You're going to need that 30-40% for RT though.every bit of it.

It will be not that bad in RT IMhO, besides Heavy RT games that is ;) (CP2077, Sackboy etc.)
    But the pricing is OFFFFF
They should be like: 7900XTX at 799$ and XT at 649$ -> im 100% confident that in this reality they will gain market for sure.

Now think - in EU XTX will be >1200€ = Way too much.
No bad products, just bad prices, same goes for NV and Ampere stock....
Now where is new 3080 12GB at 549$? but they want You to buy 2y GPU @ almost MSRP

Maybe if nvidia re-release 4080 12gb as 4070ti and priced at 699$ im interested.
