Nvidia's reportedly boosting its RTX 3090 Ti with Micron 21Gbps GDDR6X memory

Nvidia's reportedly planning to launch a new gaming flagship, an upgraded version of their existing RTX 3090 graphics card called the RTX 3090 Ti.

This new GPU is set to act as a counter to Intel's planned ARC series GPU launches, highlighting Nvidia's dominance of the market by creating a more powerful version of their flagship GPU model.

According to Uniko's Hardware (via Videocardz), Nvidia's RTX 3090 Ti will use Micron's "MT61K512M32KPA-21U" GDDR6X memory modules, which offer users 21Gbps of bandwidth.

Not only are these new GDDR6X memory chips faster, they are also more memory dense. These new modules are 16 Gb (2 GB) in size, allowing Nvidia's RTX 3090 Ti graphics cards to deliver 24 GB of memory capacity with half as many GDDR6X chips as Nvidia's RTX 3090,
significantly simplifying the GPU's PCB layout and, therefore, manufacturing. This allows the RTX 3090 Ti to have memory on a single side of its PCB, reducing the thermal load on the backplates of planned RTX 3090 Ti graphics cards.

    Will 21Gbps memory help?

Using 2 GB 21Gbps GDDR6X modules will allow Nvidia's RTX 3090 Ti graphics card to offer users a memory bandwidth boost of around 7.7% when compared to the RTX 3090's 19.5Gbps GDDR6X memory.

This change will help to enable higher frame rates for the RTX 3090 Ti under bandwidth-constrained workloads, and allow any performance gains enabled by the RTX 3090 Ti's higher specifications in other areas to be realised.

Rumour has it that Nvidia's RTX 3090 Ti will feature a higher power target than Nvidia's RTX 3090, enabling higher base/boost clock speeds.
Beyond that, Nvidia could utilise more of the CUDA cores on its GA102 silicon, giving the GPU more compute performance.

Nvidia's RTX 3090 Ti is reportedly the first GPU to feature the full capabilities of Nvidia's GA102 silicon, giving the RTX 3090 Ti 10,752 CUDA cores.
With 21Gbps GDDR6X memory on a 384-bit memory bus, this GPU will also feature over 1 TB/s of memory bandwidth. Nvidia's RTX 3090 has 10,496 CUDA cores, giving Nvidia's rumoured RTX 3090 Ti around 2.4% more CUDA cores.
That said, the RTX 3090 Ti's rumoured power limit boost will supplement this CUDA core count increase with higher core clock speeds.

    More GPUs for January 2022?

Intel's launching their ARC series of dedicated gaming graphics cards in early 2022, giving them an opportunity to attack Nvidia's dominant mindshare when the GPU market and add some much-needed competition to the GPU market.

Nvidia has a tried and true method of shutting down its competitors when new GPU releases arrive. We have seen this frequently to counter AMD's new releases.
We saw the GTX 1070 Ti launched to counter AMD's RX Vega 56 and their RTX Super series to counter the Radeon RX 5000 series. Now that Intel is ready to compete, why wouldn't Nvidia use this tactic again to reassert its dominance?

Nvidia is reportedly working on an RTX 3090 Ti, an RTX 3070 Ti 16 GB and a new RTX 2060 12 GB model to counter Intel's incoming GPU lineup.
With these launches, Nvidia wants to show the world that they are still the best. They will not let Intel attack their mindshare.

Intel's Arc series flagship is rumoured to feature a 16 GB frame buffer, just like AMD's high-end RX 6000 series products.
Nvidia's rumoured RTX 3070 Ti 16 GB could be seen as an admission that 8 GB of VRAM is no longer enough for modern high-end gaming applications. This can already be seen in Far Cry 6.

Gigabyte preparing multiple custom designs of GeForce RTX 3080 12GB and RTX 3070 Ti 16GB

Multiple new graphics cards are now seemingly confirmed by Gigabyte.

It is happening. Gigabyte has just submitted a new SKU list to the Eurasian Economic Commission regulatory office, confirming multiple unreleased GeForce RTX 30 graphics cards in the process.
Gamers should expect at least ten RTX 3080 12GB cards, including AORUS Xtreme all the way down to Mini-ITX form factor. This 12GB model is the latest card to receive a higher frame buffer than the original (10GB), following RTX 2060 12GB which launched today.

The filing also confirms six RTX 3070 Ti 16GB models. There is no AORUS Xtreme model planned, but AORUS Master is supposedly on the launch schedule.
The 16GB version of the RTX 3070 Ti might feature the same CUDA configuration as the original, which is a full implementation of the GA104 GPU (6144 cores).
Apart from the capacity, the memory specs shouldn’t change either, as both cards are to utilize a 256-bit memory bus.

Are people still making up excuses about miners or supply chain problems?

Could it be, could it just be, that Nvidia and AMD simply raised prices to make bigger profits 'cause they can get away with it?

You forgot chip manufacturing is not currently capable of providing all industries that require them in the quantities they want (GPU, mobile, automotive and many others). Mining and supply chain issues are secondary to that.

NVIDIA RTX 3090 Ti is finally on the launch schedule
We have just received the very first embargo information on RTX 3090 Ti.

The embargoed document listing RTX 3090 Ti launch date is so fresh that it does not even have an announcement date listed. NVIDIA releases embargo dates to its board partners in advance.
Those documents include all dates that apply to the upcoming product, such as ‘product announcement’, ‘review sample seeding’, ‘reviews’ or ‘on-shelf’ date.
The first official RTX 3090 Ti document from NVIDIA only lists the on-shelf dates, which is January 27th.

Furthermore, we have also learned that on December 17th, NVIDIA will be announcing its RTX 3070 Ti 16GB graphics card. This card will be released next year, on January 11th to be exact.
It is said that the card will feature ‘the same’ CUDA core count as the 8GB model and the same clock speeds. In this case, it means full GA104 GPU (GA104-401 to be precise) with 6144 cores.
Board partners do not expect this card to be faster than the 8GB model.

    Ada Lovelace GPUs ( RTX 40 ) launched in 2022 ?

The serious news of the day comes from Digitimes, which reports that TSMC is gearing up for a major launch in 2022 with Nvidia.
This production most likely involves Ada Lovelace.

RTX 40: back to TSMC with 5nm
According to Taiwanese sources, after using TSMC’s 5nm process and chip-on-wafer-on-substrate (CoWoS) packaging technology for its Hopper H100 data center GPU,
Nvidia is reportedly turning away from Samsung and entrusting the Taiwanese foundry with its next Ada Lovelace architecture RTX 40 GPU. The RTX 40 would therefore have the 5 nm process of TSMC. The leaks on Ada Lovelace production are extremely accurate as it is revealed that the GeForce RTX 40 GPU will adopt the FC-BGA assembly standard and that ASE Technology and its subsidiary Siliconware Precision Industries (SPIL) have secured most of the assembly orders. Finally, at the end of the chain is King Yuan Electronics (KYEC),
    which would provide lapping services.
The company has been in partnership with Nvidia for several years, and it is in its premises that the GPUs will be tested. For the moment, no date is obviously mentioned with precision since nothing has started with the above-mentioned partners.
Since the end of the summer, there have been leaks about the supposed performance of Ada Lovelace GPUs. There is talk of a 70% increase in the number of cuda cores! Finally, the new versions of GDDR6X from Micron, would help to pass a milestone in terms of bandwidth.

    Ada Lovelace in 2022… Really?
Now these leaks, which are very reliably sourced, confirm that Nvidia will switch back to TSMC next year. Does this automatically mean that the new GPUs will arrive next year? It seems hard to imagine.
At most, we can expect them to arrive at the end of 2022. But as the competition gets tougher, could Nvidia review its plans and speed up the pace?
At this moment we have no reliable information on a possible schedule.

Lets us hope for some 2x8PCie parts:
4080 or 4080Ti will be the sweet spot for me

    Note:
If not i will pass this Power Hog for sure ;), my 3080Ti will live longer then.
Besides im only playing up to 69FPS + DLSS, so it will last for very long time IMhO.
---> Looking at Consoles sure it will.

To think that when the first geforce card launched, nvidia defined an aggressive strategy of a 6 month cycle.
    That was so long ago...

In real-world apps, the NVIDIA RTX A2000 offered excellent performance. For the zillions of architects and designers out there working in SketchUp and pairing that app to real-time rendering solutions like Enscape and Twinmotion, the A2000’s ability to fit into Small Form Factor (SFF) workstations is a huge benefit for the GPU.

We also like the RTX A2000’s tessellation scores. For surface and solids modeling in CAID and MCAD workflows, the tiny GPU offers excellent performance, almost matching a Quadro RTX 4000 in OpenGL tessellation performance. The VRMark score demonstrates that despite its tiny size, the RTX A2000 can power most VR headsets. For those interested in Varjo’s industrial-grade VR-3 / XR-3 headsets, and above, the NVIDIA RTX A2000 doesn’t quite fit the bill. NVIDIA’s new RTX A2000 isn’t aimed at the high-end market where Varjo’s gear plays.

For V-Ray users, the RTX A2000 generates 1.8 – 2.1 Vrays per USD, compared to 1.95 Vrays per USD for the RTX 3070. On the OpenGL tessellation level, the RTX A2000 is an even better value performer. The variability in the 1.8 – 2.1 Vrays measure depends on if users can grab an A2000 for USD 450 or the USD 525 we saw online. Sometimes folks automatically think that getting the least expensive option among a selection of options means you get less dollar value. In this particular case, the A2000 delivers excellent value.

    Costs: 450 USD MSRP
