Looks like DLSS is getting more modes. From NvRTX/UnrealEngine github repo:

    Setting DLSS Quality
    • r.NGX.DLSS.Quality 0...4
      • 0 Performance
      • 1 Balanced
      • 2 Quality
      • 3 Ultra Performance
      • 4 Ultra Quality

How Bots took over the RTX 3080 Launch ...

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 launched yesterday, then promptly sold out in 5 minutes according to stores like Newegg and in 15 seconds according to some very disappointed would-be customers who weren’t able to place an order. The likely culprit? Bots run by scalpers. The evidence is pretty cut and dry, but now thanks to the folks at PC Mag, we have admissions from the people running the bots, as well as an explanation for how exactly they snatched so many units away from folks hoping to get the new best graphics card.

In an article published yesterday, PC Mag spoke to the people behind Bounce Alerts, as well as a few of their customers, about how the company’s automated purchasing bots work. For the uninitiated, Bounce Alerts is a service that members can subscribe to for $75 a month which then gives them access to scripts that monitor store pages and automatically purchase items when they go in stock. The company first sprung up in the sneakers market, but there’s nothing stopping savvy resellers from applying it to tech as well.

Bounce Alerts first came up as a culprit for hogging the 3080 launch when some resellers took to Twitter to publicly thank the company. Some of these posts have since been deleted, probably to avoid orders being cancelled by Nvidia, but others are still up. One particular deleted post, which PC Mag caught in a screenshot before it got taken down, showed a reseller who managed to buy 42 units thanks to the script.

Here's one more 3090 video @ 8K that you can select 8K youtube settings. Seems at least technology is making great advances.

"For the sake of it, we also threw in little brother Geforce RTX 3080 to see how limiting the card's 10GB graphics memory will be in 8K resolution. As seen in the graph, the memory runs out in Battlefield V, Total War: Three Kingdoms and Wolfenstein: Youngblood, resulting in a nice slideshow. Even in Doom Eternal seems to suffer a bit from memory shortages, as the lowest numbers slide down further than expected.

As expected, many of today's games are far too heavy-powered to run in 8K at acceptable frame rates. This is of course something that Nvidia has predicted, and therefore they have implemented DLSS mode "Ultra Performance". This allows the game to render in 2560×1440 pixels and then scale up to 8K via a machine learning model.
    ...
With DLSS "Ultra Performance" enabled, we are met with significantly higher frame rates, which is not unexpected in sure that the scenes are now rendered in a significantly lower resolution. Subjectively, the scale-up looks like doing a good job of filling in the information missing from the games, which ultimately gives a nice graphic presentation on the Samsung TV we used.
    ...
For those of you who are unlikely to be on a screen or TV with 8K resolution, we have uploaded two clips from Battlefield V and Doom Eternal respectively in 8K 30 FPS. The only reasonable option to capture 8K video at present is Nvidia's built-in Shadowplay feature which is limited to 30 FPS at this resolution."
    ...

"On top of the performance, we encountered some technical issues running the 8K graphics card against Samsung's Q950TS, where we ultimately had to use reduced color resolution with chroma subsampling 4:2:2 to get the image. According to Nvidia, this should be solved with an upcoming software update to this particular TV model, but it might be worth considering if you intend to get started right now.

Competing companies' TVs are also awaiting software updates for their 8K models to fix problems that have only been made visible with the launch of the Ampere architecture. As for the even more exotic modes such as 4K at 240 Hz or 8K in 120 Hz, both of which are only allowed via Displayport, there is a complete lack of consumer products with support for this at present.
    ...
To sum up, gaming in 8K feels more like a fun gimmick at present rather than something that a purpose you buy a graphics card for. Anyone who has today invested in the tv manufacturers' new flagship will have the opportunity to operate these with the Geforce RTX 3090, but must also be prepared to use generous amounts of resolution scaling inside the games or DLSS where it is supported."

    From EVGA ragarding 3080 issues:

"During our mass production QC testing we discovered a full 6 POSCAPs solution cannot pass the real world applications testing. It took almost a week of R&D effort to find the cause and reduce the POSCAPs to 4 and add 20 MLCC caps prior to shipping production boards, this is why the EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 series was delayed at launch. There were no 6 POSCAP production EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 boards shipped.

But, due to the time crunch, some of the reviewers were sent a pre-production version with 6 POSCAP’s, we are working with those reviewers directly to replace their boards with production versions.
EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 XC3 series with 5 POSCAPs + 10 MLCC solution is matched with the XC3 spec without issues.

Also note that we have updated the product pictures at EVGA.com to reflect the production components that shipped to gamers and enthusiasts since day 1 of product launch."

Nvidia doubled only the number of FP32 cores that can be active concurrently.
The more INT32 operations you run on Ampere, the more FP32 cores you lose.

Whereas, on Turing the number of FP32 and INT32 is 1:1 and it's fixed.
You have 4352 FP32 cores and 4352 INT32 cores on a 2080Ti, no matter the load distribution between FP32 and INT32.

    With a 50% FP32 + 50% INT32 load, magically the 3080 becomes nearly identical to the 2080Ti.
    The 8,704 cores on a 3080 do 4352 FP32 operations + 4352 INT32 operations simultaneously, what a coincidence.

So where does the 25-30% lead over the 2080Ti come from?
    Games are not 50% FP32 + 50% INT32 loads.
In games, FP32 operations are more common than INT32 operations, the cut is probably in the realm of 70% FP32 + 30% INT32.
There it is, your 20-30% lead over Turing.

In order to have a 2X increase in gaming performance over Turing, the games would need to be coded using 100% FP32 operations.

nvidia leveraged the disparity between int and fp operations when making this change.

What is doubled is the shader throughput, which should have a corresponding impact on game performance if the game is coded to take advantage. Right now the RTX 30xx is underutilized as most apps/games are not built to take advantage of this. The next few months will be interesting with this capability exposed and utilized.
