HI all, does anyone know how to fix this issue? with HDR on, games look gorgeous but
the shadowplay recording looks washed out

As far as I know Shadowplay doesn't support recording HDR, so it's trying to clamp it to the SDR color space and that makes it looked washed out. You either have to play and record in SDR for clear and correct footage or invest in a separate HDR compatible recording solution.

Shadow play does support HDR some example vids I have taken with shadowplay and HDR on:

Try this, as the same thing happens to me OP.
its a dumb work around but it works 100% of the time to me to allow me to record HDR properly (Also worked for my brother):
Go into NVCP and change your Output Dynamic Range from Full to Limited (Apply) and back to Full (Apply) on the resolution tab (or vice versa if you use limited)
Then if you record it will capture the HDR data correctly (make sure you use VLC or like to playback video as it will correct let you view the HDR)

Wachu playin those .mp4 files with? Does the player itself support hdr because if it doesn't, it should look washed out.
    Try PotPlayer or Kodi player.
